I love hard games, I love overcoming challenges!!! But I have bounced off near every souls-like I've tried because there is a degree of "starting over" in them that feels like failure to me. It's not fun! And I'm simply not gonna engage.

Authorial intent is my most beloathed phrase when we are talking about difficult games!! It's entirely dismissive of the way players interact with games AND their developers.

It's an over-simplification but no one brought up authorial intent when the ME3 ending debacle was going on lol

If you haven't heard her talk about it before I think Janet's insight into the game (and the difficult conversation surrounding it!) has been incredibly insightful. She's critical but she IS enjoying the game and people label her a hater for... Not being uncritical about it.

I wish I could find the exact tweet I'm thinking of (or maybe it was on Remap Radio that she said it) but @gameonysus.bsky.social has been playing through Silk Song and has had some really great things to say about the way difficulty is handled in that game (+ the fan response to frustration.)

I don't know shit about Kamen Rider, you don't need to! It's so obviously a love letter to that series and they do some really great things where they splice in some OG footage but it's like animated over? Idk very cool!!!!!!!
