Every Metabaron story is basically the same: “Did you know? The Metabaron is AWESOME?”

And he is. The Metabaron IS awesome.

The Metabaron was one of the first digital sculptures I did a couple of years ago. Tonight I decided to tweak it and add some color.

Every time I come across this theatrical demon vigilante from 2021 I'm like "Yeeeah, more stuff like this".

From an ambitious, big budget 80s Star Trek knockoff, that began as an adaptation of a forgotten 30s pulp hero, but they lost the rights mid-production. The soundtrack is Heart, Dalbello, and Vangelis. It bombed.

This character has been included in the concept stage for at least three different projects over the years. Different names and all that, but I just can't not use this look.

I've said it a million times, but this is why "What were you smoking when you came up with this?" annoys me so much. I'm 45 years into having a Good Imagination.

Actually, this is my number one piece of advice.

The moment you unearth an elusive piece of the story, and it all clicks together is a high that these people will chase forever and never so much as glimpse in the distance. Your brain is so much more powerful and creative than any AI shill wants you to believe.

Genuinely though: You ever break an idea wide open? Euphoria is definitely the right word. I really do pity people who will never know the feeling.

People who think the idea of "give me ideas" is something genuinely creative people want have literally never experienced the absolute EUPHORIA of a brainstorming breakthrough, either solo or with a human collaborator. They don't understand what is happening when artists create, on a basic level.

SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

You ever have someone look through your comic and tell you "The world needs this"? That's nice. I highly recommend it.

for me, making the leap from writing/conceptual work to thumbnailing is the hardest and where I procrastinate the most.

apropos of nothing, here are the NINE logos I've worked out for HΩME.

Absolutely not. And here we are, 40+ years later with "What if Jared Leto wore a biker suit with glowing lines? Wait... What if EVERYTHING was glowing lines??"

Damn that's cool as hell.

The appeal is that they invented something. Imagine Disney inventing something now? I literally can't.

Another, even harder to replicate, aspect of it is that they made it in ways other movies just weren't being made at the time. I'm not sure if it's what they did, but it looks like black & white footage with color added in post. What's the modern equivalent of that? Cuz it's definitely not CGI.

Speaking of secret sauce that wasn't anywhere to be found in the sequels, so much of the idiosyncrasies of the original film that make it timeless come from visionary artist Jean Giraud AKA Moebius.
