Notable Patriots-Seahawks game number five!

2012. NFL Throwback calls this The Legion of Boom is Born, but Tom Brady threw for 395 yards. But they intercepted him twice and limited to them to one touchdown in six red zone trips, which was enough for Russ to Russ.

A mildly bold prediction:

The last Pro Bowl will be held in January of 2028, after the 2027 season, as they keep it going long enough to promote flag football at the Olympics and then give up.

Notable Patriots-Seahawks game number four!

2004. Tom Brady and company going for their 20th win in a row and the all-time record. Can they get past Mike Holmgren's Seahawks? Turns out, yes, though Seattle had some kick in the fourth quarter to make them sweat.

Notable Patriots-Seahawks game number three!

1988. December, deep into the playoff race, both teams at 7-6, so it should be a good game, right? No! Neither Doug Flutie nor Dave Krieg could top 65 passing yards, and the Seahawks had just two first downs!

With Joe Flacco making his first career Pro Bowl, RIP to his status as the best quarterback to have never gone. Ruined a perfect career, smh.

So now he has to pass that torch to...Craig Morton? Steve Grogan? Steve DeBerg? Jim Plunkett? Jordan Love? Who IS the best QB to never make it now?

I loved this idea. And so (with Bryan's blessing)...

We need one of those NYT needles with "Do You Trust Sam Darnold".

It's quivering towards "yes" at the moment.

I actually kind of like this move. It's a big swing, but an intriguing one.

Now, if it's "he's OC in name only and the offense is going to be the same as it has been" then yeah, that's an issue.

Notable Patriots-Seahawks game number two!

1986. This time New England has the big lead, up 31-21 with two minutes and change left. But Seattle blocked two punts in the game, one being recovered for a touchdown, and Dave Krieg hit Ray Butler on a 67-yard bomb to win

It's fun the game-theory out the Hall and the Belichick snub. Classic tragedy of the commons.

You ask every voter in that room, individually, how many of the other 49 people were going to vote for Belichick, and the average guess would have been 48 and change.

It's worth noting that the list of greats who did not make the HoF on the first ballot is large, with everyone from Alan Page to Mike Ditka having to wait a bit.

@kitwrenaway.bsky.social compiled a list of the NFL100 members who had to wait over on the DVOA Discord.

Mike Sando's got a post on X about just why Belichick may not have made it, and he points out a lot of the strategic voting that the new Hall rules from last year created are a significant factor.

We all expected them to change back eventually; this may make eventually now.

I mean, If Belichick isn't a first ballot hall of famer, no one is.
A stunner from @dvnjr.bsky.social and me: Bill Belichick is not a first ballot Hall of Famer. He didn't get elected this year. The 8-time champion failed to 40 out of the 50 votes required for induction.

Sources: Bill Belichick will not be a first-ballot Hall of Famer
Bill Belichick, the eight-time Super Bowl-winning coach, will not a first-ballot Hall of Famer, sources told ESPN.

Both Super Bowl coaches are named Mike.

This is the third time the Super Bowl has featured two coaches with the same name, and it was ALSO Mike both times.

The crisis continues unabated.
At this rate, all coaches will be named Mike by 2203, unless the league expands.

That must be why they're playing more games in Europe.

Notable Patriots-Seahawks game number one!

1984. Seattle opens a 23-0 lead, and the Pats pull Steve Grogan after the Seahawks score twice in a minute. They never find the end zone the rest of the way, though -- New England scores the next 38 points to win!

Shedeur Sanders was the worst QB in the league by both DYAR and DVOA, but basically everyone else in the AFC is hurt, playing in the Super Bowl, or already IN the Pro Bowl. I guess they could send Dillon Gabriel instead.

...Just send Philip Rivers.
[Schultz] Browns QB Shedeur Sanders has been added to the Pro Bowl roster as a replacement.

Sanders is the first 5th-round rookie to make a Pro Bowl since Puka Nacua. twitter.com/Schultz_Repo...

I'll be eager to see where DVOA eventually places them, but here's the top passer ratings in Conference Championship history, with Sam Darnold and Matthew Stafford taking their places.

For a long time this year, DVOA had the Seahawks rated higher than other advanced metrics based on EPA.

I'm feeling pretty good about that right now.

Best two players on the field today were JSN and Emmanwori. What building blocks going forward for Seattle.

I would like to take this opportunity to officially retract the Almanac's suggestion that swapping Geno for Darnold was overly-risky 😉
