We recently visited Glenthorne Guest House and Conference Centre in beautiful Grasmere. Run as a Quaker Charity but open to all. Glenthorne is a place where you would not feel alone if you come on your own. Very special atmosphere & stunning walks right from the door. 2026 programme now!

Think how often injustice is related to inconsistency. Inconsistency has too often been the cradle of injustice and sociopathic behavior. So to speak of consistent compassion is to affirm the importance of a reliable and steady love for others, regardless of their station in life.

The theme of Quaker Week this year is Love Your Neighbour.

Listen to this beautiful episode of the BBC’s Daily Service, delivered by @timquaker.bsky.social – a Quaker and general secretary of @globalquakers.bsky.social – which reflects on the meaning and importance of loving your neighbour.

Violence is never right. Killing is never right. Targeting people because of who they are is never right.

We give thanks for all those, from all backgrounds, who have come together to oppose hatred and promote living together peacefully. It is vital that we all continue to do so.

Saturday, 27th Sept marks the 200 anniversary of the of the Stockton & Darlington railway. Quakers played a major part in the development of railways. One reason for this involvement was the exclusion of Quakers from the professions hence the interest in business.

I liked this, from Quakers in Britain Recording Clerk, Paul Parker, considering 'Who is my neighbour'?

“Living among these neighbours, and loving them all, is inextricably tied up with my faith. Through my relationships with my neighbours, I come to understanding something of the divine which is in us all.”

Paul Parker reflects on having neighbours and being a neighbour.

Armed Forces Day is on Sat, 28th June. Quakers hold a Testimony to peace and all that makes for peace. We respect the courage of our armed forces & desire to do whatever may be possible to keep them from harm. We are concerned at the manner in which AFD is widely presented as family entertainment.

We need to go beyond “welcoming”, with its “them-and-us” dynamic, and instead be prepared to hand power and agency over to historically marginalised groups to run and shape the church themselves.
