We chartered a boat
To a faraway island.
Blue we cannot see,
Yellow we only fathom
In the depths of our vast dreams.

FIRST REFORMED is one of the best films I’ve seen in a while.
Beautiful, ugly, despondent and hopeful.
I’m still thinking about it.

8 years ago, when the orange tapeworm was about to take office, I posted this on social media. Still relevant now.

I joined BlueSky about a year ago, dk exact date.
This platform has been a bright spot for me this past year.
I’ve tried to focus on poetry, movies, and other things that I love and bring me joy.
And hope.
I came here in despair and found hope.
Thank you all.

WOW.
Series finale was way, way better than I ever expected.
Bravo!

I needed that tonight.

“A life without despair is a life without hope.”

A quote from the film, FIRST REFORMED starring Ethan Hawke.
Watched this yesterday morning and it has stayed with me since..
Honestly, one of the best films I’ve watched all year.

I think my New Year’s resolution will be to actually revise and edit one of the poems I wrote this year.

Just one. Baby steps.

No one is more tiresome than the Reddit online #StrangerThings fandom.

I think most of them must be youngs who don’t get the 80s refs and homages.
Seems to be schoolboys who fancy themselves edgy film critics but they’re stuck having to critique a nostalgic sci-fi show geared toward olds.

One less bigot on the planet.

But don’t worry, more are being born, raised and nurtured as I type this.

Some ppl can’t seem to take a single day off from the doom.

Yes, it’s here. Yes, more is coming.

But so is joy. So is beauty. So is hope.

And remember to, when the time comes - vote.

BETTER WATCH OUT was NOT what I expected. I liked it despite it being about basic teen boy bs.

EDEN and UNMOORED both worth a watch.

DEAD END - high letterbox ratings, but…Imo, good but nothing great.
(And I’m certainly not watching it again)

Lord knows I'm not a fan of any of this corporate media consolidation — Netflix and Paramount both should be barred from buying WBD.

But in terms of sending a message, would be stellar if everyone watched Good Night and Good Luck on Netflix together next Sunday when 60 Minutes is on the air.

The last two movies I watched, I watched on my iPad. And it was actually an enjoyable experience.
Although I have to place the iPad screen close to me and wear my glasses to see clearly.

My parents were working class in the 70s/80s. My Dad was trained (on the job) to be a machinist.
They bought a house, but an old fixer upper in a declining neighborhood.
They only bought used cars, and more than 2 yrs old.
We went camping for vacations but most vacations were “staycations”.
Instead of “this is important, but I can’t afford it” (health insurance, housing close to work, etc.) or “everyone should be able to afford this, especially in such a rich country, and some can’t, which is bad,” many insist “people in the past had it easier.” The (false) comparison matters to them.

I saw THE SHINING in a cinema for the first time (have seen it many times on tv and DVD) last night. In IMAX!
I was skeptical at first re the IMAX part, but once the film started - WOW! That first shot over the mountains!
And those scenes drenched in red…
Wow.

I listened to McCARTNEY III (2020) today for the first time ever.
Dk why it took me so long!

I loved every song! Paul’s voice has aged but he still creates these bright, catchy melodies.
This album reminds me a bit of the 1st McCARTNEY (1970) too. Overall vibe is pensive, eloquent but simple…

I got a bittersweet Xmas card in the mail today, from my cousin. I’m still thinking about it.
My cousin lives with and cares for my aunt, who has dementia brought on by old age, as well as other health issues.

My cousin included a handwritten note saying she found my aunt’s 2022 Xmas card list.
