The frozen yogurt of people: Fine, but no one's first choice. Film person/aspiring filmmaker. @Burtonesque89 on Letterboxd. I blather on about movies and SNL and Futurama/The Simpsons and the Tim Burton oeuvre, and there's very little else to me.

IIIIIT'S 50! Time to start sharing the #SNL lists/rankings I've been assembling, starting with TOP 50 SHORT FILMS/CARTOONS/MUSIC VIDEOS. Tomorrow (I hope), TOP 50 LIVE SKETCHES. More to come after that. Further lists will be dropped as replies to this post.

Hi, I'm watching a 1981 ep. of Siskel & Ebert - SNEAK PREVIEWS-era - and I just heard Gene bemoan the steamroller of Oscars predictions that "sometimes start MID-year," and now I'm low-level sad in that, "Ohhhhh, but it will get SO much worse!" way. Okay, byyyyyyye.

Well...thoughts on the #Oscars news, because that seems like something I'd post:

I put, "Oh by the way, I've cracked the code," up there among the funniest Weird Al lyrics - which is saying a lot.

This is, as far as I can recall, the first time I've seen a studio's Facebook - ANY social media - page "congratulate" a movie on its appearances on the Oscars SHORTLISTS. Interesting to ME, but...I'm clinging to anything that's not entirely dire.
December 17, 2025 at 12:45 AM
To actual film journalists or fellow Oscars nerds who refer to awards for "below the line" fields - y'know, cinematography and editing and sound and production design and on & on, AKA 𝑚𝑜𝑠𝑡 𝑎𝑠𝑝𝑒𝑐𝑡𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝒇𝒊𝒍𝒎𝒎𝒂𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 - as "technical categories" or "technicals" or "techs," I say: Stop, you're not helping.

Sometimes I miss Letterman's "Late Show" just because I miss Darlene Love stopping by every year to do "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)." I call those times "December."

Tr*** taking time to repugnantly comment on Rob Reiner's death/stroke himself off surely isn't the most crass, vile thing he did that HOUR.

Rob Reiner either made your favorite movie, or made somebody you know’s favorite movie. If you’re a Californian, he’s also part of the reason you or your friends can get married. He has changed more lives for the better than this asshole commenting on him ever did.

Making ONE truly great and/or iconic film is uncommon and special. Rob Reiner made several. More importantly, he seemed - much as I can tell from social media - to remain morally upright and attentive, as his father did. Impressive
December 15, 2025 at 4:36 AM
The news about the Reiners is only becoming more gruesome and awful, and I almost feel like keeping track of it is gawking at something that shouldn't be gawked at. I don't know, just...fucking bleak. But what isn't at this point?
December 15, 2025 at 4:09 AM
No, 2025, I did NOT request a sudden and ghastly kick in the teeth today, you got that wrong.

THIS comment's gotta be for SOMEONE i follow & vice versa:

Richard Lawson's on Blank Check for the ELLA McCAY episode, back on the Brooks beat, and that just makes me hope that someone in that movie does say, "You're the kind of person who's a kind of a person." A man can dream.

We are ALL on the naughty list and paying a penance that can never fully be repaid, doomed to never be escorted out of the Tr*** era, on #SNL or otherwise.

um...I mean, something light and fun...

Dick Van Dyke made it to three digits! May you keep dodging that ottoman as long as possible, DVD!

"Kashyyyk" does not have the red squiggly "THAT'S NOT EVEN A WORD!" line underneath it on Letterboxd. Letterboxd just recognizes the Wookie homeworld as A WORD. And THAT is why I like it there.

I really think this sketch is being under-valued, because it kinda knocked me out by being a fairly rich scene full of wonderful character beats & performance touches from McCarthy & Culhane. My 2nd favorite of this #SNL season, so far, after "Not So Fast!"

Oh, well, Paramount's embarking on this "hostile takeover" of WB, it might not be Netlix consuming the latter after all, so...

Nope, nope, nope, this is ALSO VERY, VERY BAD AND SERIOUSLY DAMAGING FOR A GREAT MANY PEOPLE. And that's BEFORE thinking on who owns Paramount/about Tr*** and AAAAGGGGHHH!

Most of the time, I like to keep my best-of-whatever playlists to 20-something segments or fewer, be a bit selective. This time, I went, "Screw it, 50 years, 50 segments this time!" Malkovich! Sheila & Sheila! Pudge & Solomon! Dildos! Holidays!

A Holiday Season with Saturday Night Live - YouTube
A compilation of great Christmas-and-adjacent-holiday segments...which would be much better if the first-season "Winter Wonderland" performance with the cast...

Time declaring "The Architects of AI" the "Person of the Year."

Me hearing Michael Caine's Alfred say that, "Some men just want to watch the world burn."

...

Nah, I'm sure those two things are UNRELATED.
December 11, 2025 at 4:43 PM
I've heard some awards-season commentators express bafflement at the film IS THIS THING ON? being classified as a drama, and...A film about a stand-up comic 𝑐𝑎𝑛 𝑏𝑒 𝑎 𝑑𝑟𝑎𝑚𝑎. "It's about a comedian so it's gotta be a comedy!" is a dumb perspective, and a film's subject does not dictate its genre.
December 11, 2025 at 4:28 PM
Between Tr***ism and the rise of AI, 98% of my life as an adult has been spent observing most of the world around me willingly - or EAGERLY - signing up for their own doom. And there's no end in sight.

We FINALLY got "The Whole Bloody Affair," rolled out to THEATERS at that, aaaaaand most of the Tarantino conversation online this last week has instead been about him trashing Paul Dano. As if QT doesn't have some wild takes from time to time. Great job, everyone.

Recirculating:
If anyone I follow - or in the circle of anyone I follow - is looking for someone to fill a proofreader/copy editor job, especially one who could work remotely/from home...I'm in pursuit of such a thing. Better still if it's a film-related outlet, as I have degrees in the field & can sort of write.
