The frozen yogurt of people: Fine, but no one's first choice. Film person/aspiring filmmaker. @Burtonesque89 on Letterboxd. I blather on about movies and SNL and Futurama/The Simpsons and the Tim Burton oeuvre, and there's very little else to me.

IIIIIT'S 50! Time to start sharing the #SNL lists/rankings I've been assembling, starting with TOP 50 SHORT FILMS/CARTOONS/MUSIC VIDEOS. Tomorrow (I hope), TOP 50 LIVE SKETCHES. More to come after that. Further lists will be dropped as replies to this post.

It will take a place of pride among my many other fine, leather-bound books.
My new book on 2000s Hollywood comedies, Funny Business, will be available on October 6 and is officially up for pre-order right now. In my wholly objective opinion, you and every person in your family should do that. You can order your copy at the link below.
Funny Business by Matt Singer: 9798217047949 | PenguinRandomHouse.com: Books
A behind-the-scenes look at the rise (and eventual fall) of the raunchy, blockbuster “Frat Pack” comedy films of the early 2000s—including The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Old School, Wedding...

"William Shakespeare, 400 years ago."

The monologue McKellen - a truly excellent actor who transmits such infectious joy for his arts - performs here is bracing yet quite pleasurable, and I hope a few minutes of CBS airtime were given over to it, not JUST YouTube.

We have, as a widespread community of SNL-loving dorkuses, kept up the "Not Ready for..." bit WAY longer than the show did - and you know, good for us.

No one EVER says anything about Reddit that makes it seem sane to be on Reddit.

I am often embarrassed that other nations 𝑘𝑛𝑜𝑤 𝑎𝑏𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑢𝑠...so that's one reason I'm somewhat nervous for "SNL UK." But there's a healthier anticipation alongside that nervousness, and a hope that that show doesn't just bite the modern style of #SNL and swipe its formula entirely. (1/2)

I'm not saying Tr***ism doesn't make its way over to - or have horrific kindred spirits over in - the UK, but "SNL UK" surely won't have to spend AS MUCH time on him/his kind, and for that...I'd maybe rather watch that #SNL.

I may hate the way WB has disrespected the Looney Tunes catalog/ensemble in recent years...but TCM having & promoting them - Bugs Bunny, the current Star of the Month over there! - feels only right.
February 4, 2026 at 7:13 PM
Even if I didn't want/have to see HOPPERS out of my Pixar completism, my #SNL fandom would force me to, given that the cast includes Bobby Moynihan, Vanessa Bayer, Ego Nwodim, and Melissa Villaseñor.

After rewatching some sketches from the last #SNL, (I) "The Viking Raid" worked much more for me, the modernity of the sensitive conversation did play as a good deal funnier, although the dashes of gruesomeness weren't adding *much* value ('til the last one). JAJ was great in it, too. (1/2)

"It's like a party at my mom's house!"

I forget how/why, but at some point I brought THIS up while talking with a friend last night, and that meant I had to revisit it, and...I'm just real glad this happened.

Ayyy, I got a little shoutout in the Vulture Movies Fantasy League newsletter today! (Also, I am NOT the only one who encountered the, "Oh, you can't have an apostrophe here, huh?" thing when settling on a team name.)

Protests against Tr*** and Tr***ism and ICE are noble and right and I admire the people participating in them, putting themselves on the line...

...and protest signs always get me thinking of Abe Simpson holding the "Bring back WAGON TRAIN" sign sooner or later. That's my broken brain.

As much as I separate art from artist, as much as I hold firm that lousy people can make great work and we DON'T have to act like those works are entirely horrible in hindsight...

I do feel like I have to do penance for enjoying the first two RUSH HOUR movies, given Brett Ratner's latest project.

So Stevie Spielberg's in the EGOT club now...I always knew that kid would make something of himself.

Ah, #SNL: 1000 episodes, 1000 laughs...

Wait, no, that's insulting, don't want that. Anyway, "episode #___" milestones are arguably silly, but hitting 1000 shows IS something, and who'd have thought 50-years-and-a-few-months ago that this shaggy, countercultural-yet-throwbacky show would make it!

There are a couple Oscar-nominated films I need to see, and there are probably eligibility situations that got the WGA to this lineup...but THIS Original Screenplay lineup rules. So happy to see the recognition for BLACK BAG, IF I HAD LEGS I'D KICK YOU, and WEAPONS!
