when MLB dropped "diversity" from its career site, I reached out to every team, including those with live DEI pages.

None committed to their current efforts. Almost nobody responded!

One week before Jackie Robinson Day, my take on the leaguewide silence:

Most MLB teams have DEI programs. Why won’t any commit to them or talk about it? | Opinion
In the Trump era, when even Jackie Robinson is at risk, the sport is quiet about diversity efforts it used to tout. | Opinion

Thiessen having a good chuckle about his fired liberal colleagues - some of whom he worked with for 15 years - is a good reminder that token conservatives at mainstream news outlets are/were there to destroy them, not to contribute to them.

repost this if an editor has ever saved you from yourself

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

Just watched finished the first two seasons of Foundation. These books, the original trilogy and then the ones on Asimov’s later years, are some of my favorite.

This show is not them. And why I am really enjoying it. The show is such an interesting reinterpretation, and just so beautifully shot.

I like what the show is doing with time and how Dornick/Hardin/Mallow/etc are not evolutionary/linear but of the same time/all the time (the notion of time in the show is fascinating).

Also like the concept that the show knows Earth, while the books don’t touch it till later.

Just good tv.

I'm rewatching the original run of Behind the Music. I'm almost done with S1 and I'm struck by how much the show relied on "exclusive" interviews to legitimate and spectacularize scandal. I'm also struck by how often musicians used drugs to treat illnesses that weren't legible as such by medicine.

CA friends… click below to tell newsom to sign the other trans rights bills on his desk
madycast.com
He hasn't signed the other bills yet, but he still has days to do so
This headline is misleading for not mentioning that.

The gender education veto is bad, but far from the most important trans rights bill on his desk.

There's still time to contact Newsom for the rest!

Anarchism is more than lack of hierarchies and I suspect you know this
usvi-comradeancom.bsky.social
Just so I understand, your position is that the current administration is anarchic in its operation. How does that work, when it is very clearly a hierarchical decision making governance. It is certainly chaotic, but anarchies are defined by a lack of hierarchical governance.

I know what I can tolerate at work:

smart, but mean: watch your 6, but possible ally through commitment to excellence

stupid, but nice: doesn't know much but has your best interest at heart.

stupid AND mean: irredeemable. leave yesterday.

anyway, good luck to the fine folks at CBS News!

Bari Weiss introduced herself to CBS News staff today on the network's 9AM call, saying she wants to "win," which requires restoring trust to CBS. She also said she was excited for staff to get to know the Free Press, and ended her remarks by saying: "Let's do the fucking news."
