1/ Sometime in the next few months I expect we'll be bombarded with op-eds along the lines of, 'My Friendship With Jeffrey Epstein Was a Mistake--But Do I Really Deserve To Be Canceled For It?'

And the response should be, 'Yes, motherfucker, you do.'
This was a truly disastrous decision and it came from the pre-MAGA court.
“When Citizens United was decided in 2010, billionaires had spent $18 million on the 2000 election, $13M 2004 and $16M in 2008. Then came the deluge. In 2012 it was $231M, and nearly doubled again in next three election cycles —to $682M in 2016, $1.2 billion in 2020 and $2.6 billion in 2024.” Gift:

Those of us who hate AI want it to fuck off forever and wish we didn't have to deal with it.

At the same time we may have no choice.
I confess I do not understand why “the left should prepare for the worst case scenario with AI and jobs” seems to have elicited such a strong negative reaction bsky.app/profile/chri...
I understand why people are exhausted by AI hype, and why those of us squarely in the corner of "human dignity uber alles" see AI doomerism as self-serving hype, but I *really* think people on the left broadly need to start thinking seriously about the possibiltiy of the hype being...true.

Facebook just promoted a Free Press article on my feed scolding us for making ICE agents into 'cartoon villains,' and here they are laughing about shooting an unarmed woman.
“My 15 mins of fame. Lmao.” -- Border Patrol agent, texting someone to brag about shooting a woman multiple times in Chicago.

Imagine almost killing someone and then responding with a "laugh my ass off" www.motherjones.com/politics/202...
DHS shot her and called her a “terrorist.” New videos show something different.
"It’s time to get aggressive," a Border Patrol agent said shortly before Marimar Martinez was shot five times.

Let's put Burgum in a room and pump lots of CO2 into it and see how he handles it.
Burgum: "CO2 was never a pollutant. When we breathe, we emit CO2. Plants need CO2 to survive and grow. They thrive with more CO2. So the whole endangerment thing opens up an opportunity for the revival of clean, beautiful, American coal."

big reason why the oligarch class went so hard for Trump. they HATE lots of job creation because when your workers can quit and get another one the next day, it's much harder to abuse them
With revisions, the +130,000 jobs in January is actually the best of the Trump's term. He didn't have a single month over +100,000 in 2025, with 3 months of job losses.
Also Biden is no longer the only president ever to have positive jobs numbers every month of his tenure. Jan '25 is now negative.

So Big Tech's grand vision seems to be the following: Get AI to put people out of work en masse. Then make people dependent on universal income that limits their individual earning power. Then get people to spend that income on addictive sports betting apps.
February 11, 2026 at 1:24 PM
Yep. They want AI to target and replace any potential obstacles to their accumulation of greater power.
Instead of taking this at face value, think of it as a *hit list* of targets that billionaires would like to eradicate.

Translators, historians, broadcasters, political scientists...

...now do you get the picture?

Yeah well they had a funny way of showing last election when they voted for the guy who floated using the military against American citizens.
@democrats.org:
“This survey adds to a growing mountain of evidence that “kitchen table issues” are not, in fact, all that matters to voters, and that they care about their rights and freedoms and our democratic system as well.”

Uh, actually it's ICE agents frequently showing up to civilians' houses letting them know they know where they live.

Your attempts to make the Secret Police sympathetic are not going to be successful, champ.
RON JOHNSON: In Central America, if you become a police chief, the drug cartels send you a DVD w/ a video of your family going to church or school...that's what ICE agents are facing

SORKIN: But these people are allowed to protest

J: They want their activists to dox them & put families at risk

'Stop trying to make the Secret Police comply with the US Constitution!'
Ron Johnson: "Why would they to remove their masks? Because they want these officers exposed, they want them afraid, they don't want to carry out their enforcement actions. They want judicial warrants, which would completely neuter ICE's ability to apprehend"

Huh but Michael Tracey assured me Maxwell is the Nelson Mandela of our time.
Republican Rep. Luna: “According to the files we saw, Ghislaine Maxwell was engaged in trafficking and rape of young women. Potentially children. I don’t think she deserves any special treatment. She’s a monster.”

'Started lying...'

HONKY PLEASE.

Though honestly, the issue is one of demand more than supply.

The GOP base demands to be lied to. If you don't lie to them they will get furious and revolt.
February 10, 2026 at 7:33 AM
Nah. The GOP is riding this ship all the way to the bottom of the ocean.
I believe a point in time will come when Trump's approval rating is low enough, the midterms will [be / have been] bad enough, and Congress knows enough that the dam breaks on Trump and Epstein.

Another classic post-Homan day where around school dismissal time we get a flurry of ICE vehicles all across our neighborhoods. Today one vehicle led an observer to their own home and pointed at it. This is a sick game to them, but we won’t be intimidated and we won’t stop until DHS is abolished.
