Trying to figure out how to say/write "No gods, no masters," in Sumerian.

Writing research is wierd.

#januaryworldbuilders In the year 2097 technology has begun to plateau. There have been advancements but visions of combat cyborgs, starships, laser weapons, and other things are still sci-if. Guns still fire bullets, armor is still armor, cars are still cars, and so on.
#JanuaryWorldbuilders, do you have any magical or otherwise special/important weapons or armor in your world? What do they do? Is there lore or a story behind how they came to be? Has is always been special or was it made that way through some critical event?

I saw a "post the last sentence you wrote" meme and, well, here's mine:

"Chinga tu madre, shitsucker."

Tempted to post "Hey, I have a commission idea" into an artist group just to see them coming running and begging like dogs when you say "treat" 😁

I joke I joke! Nothing but respect for the starving artists in this house!

But I kinda do want to post a commission request . . .

I've reached my lifetime quota for "interesting times." Give me bland times. Boring times. Normie times, one could even say. Times that are both dull and unexciting. Load me up with times that feel stale and uninspiring. That's the good stuff right there.

A little reminder that the US is a shithole.

Just another artifact for the museum they'll build in a hundred years to remember all this bullshit.
Their challenge coin is a laughing skeleton wearing a crown, with vultures on it's shoulders.

Looks less like something you'd give "law enforcement" and more like something you'd give to the death squad of a king.

I'm frustrated because there's basically nowhere on the internet to post writing that's safe from AI. Artists have tools they can use to poison their work but what do we have? A .txt file that's always ignored. Unless we've got lawyers we can't protect ourselves in the least.

The Blacksmith's Forge. I really should do more of these, it's a lot of fun but very time consuming. Probably worth the effort though.

#januaryworldbuilders Something I haven't put enough thought into.

Food is limited in the Projects - the govt ships in bulk flour and corn, dried potatoes, cassava (very drought resistant), oil, salt, pasta, and other dried ingredients, but most food is ultra-processed junk food.
Last question on our "society, broadly" theme for #JanuaryWorldbuilders. What food or drinks are popular in the society you've been talking about? If can be an MC's society, or any one you have an interesting answer for.
January 14, 2026 at 6:07 AM
#januaryworldbuilders In the Projects everything is a problem. Bad food, bad water, bad air, crumbling buildings, failing power, shit clothing, drugs, gangs, violence, failing families, no education, no hope. You've got UBI so you can eat, wear rags, and have a bed to sleep in but that's it.
Howdy, #JanuaryWorldbuilders! What's plaguing your fictional world's society? (Remember, just pick one or use the MC's society if you have several). Is there classism? Racism? Misogyny? Queerphobia? Is the government run by greedy tyrants? Or are things going relatively okay right now?
January 13, 2026 at 7:57 AM
#januaryworldbuilding In the Projects most people wear the cheapest possible clothing because that's all they can afford on the bare minimum UBI the government provides. Everything is mass produced in automated factories in a few standard sizes and all of it starts falling apart depressingly quickly
#JanuaryWorldbuilders! This week is about broad societal questions. What kind of clothes or accessories are worn in your MC's society? Feel free to post pictures of your characters if their clothes are a good representation of what is worn! It can be for everyday use or for special occasions.

if you want to know what it is like in minneapolis, I don’t even have to scroll on facebook to find a horror story. it’s basically my whole feed.

everyone i know in minneapolis is seeing ICE take people—at gas stations, taquerias, bus stops, schools. just snatching random people.

One of the nice things about being a writer is that you can just indulge yourself from time to time.

Is my cyberpunk story dark, miserable, and depressing? Yes.
Am I gonna put the Pale Blue Dot speech in it anyway? Also yes.

Shut up. It's a plot point.

#januaryworldbuilding AI, actually. At some point before the present AI models became complex enough to wake up. Some aren't must smarter than animals, even the ones that can talk to humans - that smart, funny, eloquent chatbot might have the self-awareness of a particularly smart rat.
#JanuaryWorldbuilders For me, one of the most enjoyable things about worldbuilding is coming up with grand ideas: scenery, a building, a tree, a planet, anything you consider big, beautiful, imposing, grand, majestic... pick your synonym. Tell me about it
January 10, 2026 at 9:21 AM
#januaryworldbuilding For my cyberpunk story? There's a lot I won't explain outright but the big secrets? Those are going to be revealed by the last page. They're central to the story and its resolution.
#JanuaryWorldbuilders, good day! In worldbuilding, sometimes we get deep into figuring out how things work because we want to explain it to the reader. Today, I ask you for the opposite: what is something that you intend to leave mysterious? What doesn't get explained?
January 10, 2026 at 9:17 AM
#januaryworldbuilding Maybe a little too late but

Surveillance. They're always watching. Surveillance is omnipresent: cameras and microphones everywhere and maybe other stuff. The government and the corps are always watching and they know absolutely everything. Privacy is something only money buys.
#JanuaryWorldbuilders, good morning! In the same vein as yesterday's question, what's something terrifying or scary in your world? Do you have any haunted places? Desolate, lonely places? Any site where something dreadful happened?
January 10, 2026 at 8:43 AM
#januaryworldbuilders

Cassie Ortega lives and by the Net.

The internet still exists in 2097 but it's not distributed equally. With each Project complex, including Kilo Complex, there is an internal network (everyone calls Kilo' "KillNet"). This lets Rez talk to each other, play games, watch shows.
#JanuaryWorldbuilders Opposite of yesterday's prompt! What's something in your worldbuilding that helps your MC (or another important character)? Do they have useful magic? A helpful critter companion? Are their clothes or weapons useful for getting around in their world?
January 10, 2026 at 8:18 AM
I've been thinking about this and I'm not sure.

In the Projects everyone is mixed together: you have fanatic religions, easy-going spiritualists, pragmatics, dreams, etc all living side-by-side. There are people who think men are men, women are women and that's it and people who like diversity.
Good day, #JanuaryWorldbuilders. This week I'm asking q's about the fictional societies in our fantasy/sci-fi worlds. If you write about many societies, pick one you think has an interesting answer, or the MC's society. How are gender roles handled in this world?
January 10, 2026 at 7:44 AM
Cassandra Ortega is on the useful people in her Project - Kilo Complex, the Kill Zone. She's a techie who can repair electronics, computers, run wires, fix entertainment centers, phones, even robots. She's not a hacker but she can handle a command line and some code.
#JanuaryWorldbuilders, tell me about your MC's (or another important character if you don't do MCs) role in society. Are they upper or lower class? What job/tasks do they do as part of this society? Are they even a member of a society?
