This is good stuff. I was at the 2015 memorial dedication and the sermon Bishop Porter Taylor gave was stunningly good.

I want you to know that I--a middle aged white man--don't get most of the jobs I apply for because I am usually a mediocre candidate at best and when I actually get an interview, I crash and burn right in front of them.

It's all on me, tbh.

>Sullivan's Island had been the quarantine spot for incoming slave ship cargos. It's basically Ellis Island for enslaved Africans.

>They built a fort on this spot from which Moultrie repulsed a British attempt to capture the city in 1776 and which SC'ians haven't stopped talking about since.
Dec. 19, 1775: A settlement of runaway slaves on Sullivan's Island in the harbor of Charleston becomes the target of a raid by South Carolina patriots. The camp has drawn a trickle of escapees seeking protection from British warships, which are anchored nearby with guns that threaten the city. 1/4

Can't wait to learn what he has to say about Benjamin Harrison.
Per @garretthaake.bsky.social, the extremely tacky "presidential wall of fame" that lines the colonnade to the West Wing now has obviously-Trump-penned plaques insulting or praising the presidents.

I'm trying to emphasize that British & Patriots worked hard to leverage Cherokee military support. But the Cherokee were not puppets, and made choices for themselves in a way that makes it hard to say they "supported the British." They were doing their own thing and it kinda looked like support.
Dec. 17, 1775: Britain’s Indian affairs superintendent in the South, John Stuart, sends London a recommendation that supplies of ammunition and trade goods for Cherokee Indians in South Carolina and Georgia should be halted as a way of fomenting hostility against the patriot governments.

Dec. 12, 1775: A patriot force led by Col. Richard Richardson captures eight Tories who are believed to be inciting the Cherokees for the royal cause. They include Richard Pearis, a plantation owner and former patriot who turned coat when he didn’t get an appointment as Indian commissioner. 1/2

I love that the segment on analyzing the War Powers Resolution begins with some history of the AMERICAN CIVIL WAR.

(If I were at a Civil War Museum I'd be all over this instead of flogging Christmas tree lightings.)

That’s a new dinner party conversation: Who is someone that you hate so much that, if given the time, energy, and crew, you’d produce a 4-part documentary on them?
