Fuck I know I just crawled here, cap'n
You're almost certainly not looking for life advice from me (and if you are, you shouldn't be), but take it from me: if you have the opportunity to get a flu shot this year, you definitely, definitely should.

At last, I can let go of the thought that I will ever be relevant. I can just drift away like the icy fella at the end of Titanic.
i have said this before but if you are actually interested in influencing people beyond a narrow circle of too-online journalists you will be making direct to camera videos on tiktok, instagram and youtube. if you primarily post on text-based social media then you're just dicking around.

I had somehow failed to pick up on the fact that A Few Good Men was a Reiner film (although I suppose it does explain the so-good-that-it's-only-incongruous-when-you-notice-it Christopher Guest appearance).

What a giant, what a loss.
Rob Reiner: I'm going to make a coming of age drama, a fantasy adventure story, a romantic comedy, a psychological horror and then a courtroom drama.

Us: Across your entire career?

Reiner: In a 6 year period.

Us: That sounds-

Reiner: -Each one will be arguably the best movie in that genre.

Oops, meant to post about this ages ago after it came on the radio whilst I was driving around and nearly crashed the car when it got to the Gwendoline Christie bit. Obviously, I forgot by the time I got home, but it's still bloody brilliant.

Had to turn the news off last night when coverage of the World Cup draw came on. Infantino sucking up to Trump was making me feel pretty sick.
The Nobel Prize committee should announce the World Cup winner tomorrow

I'm afraid I'm enough of a sucker for ASOIAF stuff that I'm interested to see what this is like. Only thing that's currently bothering me is that this is now the third accent that we have heard from characters that have supposedly grown up in Flea Bottom.

Switched from the #F1 highlights to footie ones on #MOTD because United beating a very good Palace side was likely to be less upsetting. What was the first half performance all about, though? Leny Yoro, in particular, was having a stinker even before conceding the penalty.

Having been dragged back into paying attention (largely in a 2nd-hand fashion, admittedly) to Formula 1 through the fact that A Team I Don't Hate are likely to win the Constructor's and Driver's championships, you can imagine my disappointment that the other type has clawed their way back in to it.

Don't think I ever posted about it, but when I was doing all that decorating while I was between jobs last year, one of the things I listened to was the audiobook of Railsea by China Miéville.

Really great book and one I think might work for the kids on long journeys. Anyhoo...

Look, we all know that the rest of the sub-head will say something like "...poor start to the season". But, just for a moment, it was fun to imagine a journalist awkwardly hanging around outside Robbie Fowler's toilet, waiting to ask him about Benjamin Šeško.

Maybe if we get the guys who are taking the jewellery off the fleeing refugees and dress them up in clothes with skulls all over them as a reminder of the transient nature of riches in the face of our own inevitable mortality, it will make us look like the good guys?
Look, if you are trailing a budget and then immediately walking it back, before trailing an asylum bill and immediately walking it back, then you are just bad at politics and policy. There are no redeeming features here.

Deeply confusing company.

I pay a reasonable amount of attention to gaming news and media and I've barely heard a thing about Outer Worlds 2. The insane Game Pass price hike. It's like they're actively trying to torpedo the Xbox Division.
NEW: For years, Xbox execs promised to end their platforms' gaming droughts

Since 2018, Microsoft aggressively expanded its roster of game studios

In 2025, it paid off with a loaded year with games

Unclear, given the rest of Xbox's 2025, if they'll do it again

I hope I'm being melodramatic and hyperbolic and wrong when I say that if you were trying to usher in a new Dark Ages of ignorance, you'd probably start with doing something along the lines of what is happening to research in the US.
