If Indiana Jones wasn't scared to punch a Nazi, should you be? You're tougher than a college professor.

I had to go listen to Big Star for a while and then the ‘Mats’ “Alex Chilton” after this one.

Another reason to mask at protests, aside from COVID safety and protection from doxxing, is that a lot of responsible documenters don't want to publish protesters' faces (esp without their consent) right now. Your face being in a shot may prevent people from sharing a worthwhile image publicly.

Today I am focusing of the many victories of my hometowns, Philly and Chicago: THE INDOMINABLE FORCE OF THE HUMAN SPIRIT UNITED IN RESISTANCE AND JUSTICE.

Got any victories to share? Let’s hear it!

Thread from Chicago, where a restraining order has been filed against ICE:
djbyrnes1.bsky.social
Back in federal judge Sara Ellis' courtroom in Chicago for a second day of discussion on a proposed restraining order to rein in federal immigration agents' violent behavior.

Debate began on this issue on Monday, and ended without the court entering a formal order.

@unraveledpress.com & other press have been threatened, shot with less-lethals and arrested while reporting on federal immigration activities in Chicagoland and on the resulting protests at Broadview.

I'm now at a hearing asking the federal court to rein ICE & co in. I'll let you know how it goes.

it does seem weird to declare war on people and then demand they mourn your dead

This gets to something that as a former stand-up I recognized but couldn’t name. A 31 year old professional content creator baiting 19 year old amateurs into the format of his choice isn’t debate, it’s crowd work. It’s debate-shaped crowd work farmed for content.

One thing that I think some not-youngs forget (and is different from 20 years ago) is that Kirk used his ‘debates’ to generate video that could go viral and, to use an old phrase, catapult the propaganda. His debates weren’t in any way, shape, or form educational.
mikethemadbiol.bsky.social
When Charlie Kirk, who put together lists of professors he didn't like so people could target & harass them, used the phrase "free speech", he used it in the same way creationists use "teach the controversy." For Kirk, it was just another way to bludgeon the left and also to promote his propaganda.

The thing about the Charlie Kirk 'unfortunately worth the cost' of gun deaths to preserve the Second Amendment is that quote came in response to questions following a school shooting

Here are some things that Charlie Kirk said in his life.

The man is dead, and so it only seems fair to share his legacy by cataloguing the values he spread while alive.

Journalist @radleybalko.bsky.social warns that Trump's executive order to create a "quick reaction force" of National Guard troops would give him a personal army to crush dissent across the United States.

Someone shot up my kid's school today, and our governor is paying tribute to a guy who thought that is an acceptable price to pay for having the Second Amendment.
