Cathinating the countryside and the thatched roof cottages
But really, you don't even need to know the origins. Santa is not secular because Christmas is not secular, even if lots of people observe it secularly
Saint Nick was based on Nicholas, bishop of Bari, an early Christian saint who gave gifts to people in secret, usually as a way to have done a good deed. The name Santa clause is a bastardization of Sinterklaas, a Germanic form of Saint Nick. It’s very Christian.

The thing about growing up Mormon is that you know so, so many dentists, you never know if it's going to be someone you know. (I don't)

Your regular reminder to be nice to customer service people. They are super stressed this time of year and they can’t wave magic wands for you.

If you cross reference my skeets with ig posts to figure out which books I didn't like, this is me telling you i am basically a hero for finishing a book that changed tense between POVs

I keep thinking about this. Bro on the right implying that fatness doesn't involve genetics, when the whole point is that ozempic changes the way your body functions. Like, he's so close!!
I was like "wtf did I just read" and then I realized it was the vampire guy
Really not enjoying the way various tech-adjacent thinkfluencers are deploying Ozempic as an imaginative tool // futuring technology // rhetorical cudgel.

Wait, gotta bump it down to third place; forgot about the colonoscopy
But then the pandemic happened and I did NOT get it checked again, and that is why I am convinced any weird feeling in my throat is thyroid cancer.

(Also, thyroid ultrasound is probably the second worst medical test I've ever done; it feels torture-adjacent (hysterosalpingogram was the worst))

Once, I was at a well check and the midwife felt my neck and was like "huh. Might want to get that checked." So I went to an endocrinologist and got an ultrasound and the tech was like "huh. Hang on a sec" and then the doctor came and redid the ultrasound and was like "huh. Keep an eye on it."

I’m very sorry to announce this to the rest of the country & the world, but a transitional logo has been chosen for the 2034 Salt Lake City Olympics & this is it. Why does it say Utah? We don’t know. Why is the font illegible? Yet another mystery. Did they go ugly on purpose? Again, no idea.

Recently blew my mind by discovering that my great grandma, who I have vague memories of, was born in the 1800s.

Real talk, I bought a Brother monochrome laser printer ages ago because of a post that was like "just pick one" and it has been great. Single page scanner/copier, nothing fancy. Never makes a fuss. Basically got us through the pandemic, printing dozens of coloring pages every day.

I 100% agree and would add that if you are hosting a holiday event and you do NOT have something festive, creative and delicious for your guests to drink without alcohol in it, you are actually an asshole

don't make them drink tap water while everyone else has bespoke cocktails!
Just a friendly reminder as we go into the holidays:

Folks don't have to explain to you why they don't drink.

If you offer them a drink and they decline, don't ask them why. It's not your business.

Just offer them something without alcohol to drink instead. And move on.
