One of the stops on my commute is called "Mauldeth Road", and every time it's announced I think...
A screenshot of the Star Wars: Rebels episode "Twin Suns", showing (former) Darth Maul dying in the arms of the white-haired Ben Kenobi under the night sky of Tatooine.

At a slight tangent, it's a little wild that I started following you because you wrote the Age of Misrule trilogy, which I loved, and now you're my main source of international news. 😅

As I said in the alt-text, when I think of Usborne, I think of Stephen Cartwright. 😊

About a decade ago I told my mum I'd found & ordered a copy online of my most fondly-remembered book from my childhood, Usborne's "Stories for Young Children", she went to a box in the spare room and said "You mean this one?".

So now I have two copies! 😁

(And I discovered the original was a gift!)
A photo of my hand, holding up two different editions of the Usborne "Stories for Young Children", illustrated by Stephen Cartwright, who's work to me is iconic of Usborne's whole brand.

The covers of each are different illustrations by Cartwright, featuring a medley of Dragons, Giants, Witches, Wizards, Princes & Princesses, and Gnomes, Goblins & Fairies.

The book is a compendium of the Usborne "Stories of..." those subjects respectively. A close-up of the inside front-cover of my childhood copy of Usborne's Stories for Young Children, which reveals an inscription from my aunt, which reads:

"To Brian, With lots of love from Auntie Anne, Uncle Mike, Michael, Katie and John Paul."

Fantasy is my bag. 😊

Can't imagine it's anything that I don't already own on DVD at least, but I can't place the image snippets. 🤔 Fingers crossed for an upgrade or two!

Hoping for the Ator series, Barbarian Queen 1 & 2, The Warrior & The Sorceress, Gor 1 & 2...
A cropped photo of my Fantasy Blu-ray/DVD shelf, in alphabetical order, with way too many titles to list. The Arrow Video 4K Conan collection is missing because it's too big to fit on the shelf.

I mean, they're very different films to be fair, but yeah the Rotten Tomatoes Audience Scores are pretty conclusive...
A collage of two screenshots from the Rotten Tomatoes website, of the summaries for the 1998 movies "Deep Impact" and "Armageddon".
The critics scores (Tomatometer) are 45% and 43% respectively. Both "Rotten", but giving Deep Impact the slight edge.

The audience scores (Popcornmeter) however are 43% for Deep Impact, and 73% for Armageddon, making Armageddon "Certified Fresh". 🤷‍♂️

Deep Impact is better than Armageddon, don't care what anyone says.

Upgrades! 🤩
Long overdue...

Doug McClure, newly arrived in 1080p courtesy of @imprintfilms.bsky.social
A photo montage of my left & right hands holding up some blu ray & dvd boxed sets against a plain white background.

In my left hand is "The Doug McClure Fantasy Adventure Triple Bill" DVD boxed set, comprising "The Land that Time Forgot", "Warlords of Atlantis" and "At the Earth's Core", as well as a single blu ray copy of "The People that Time Forgot".

In my right hand is a copy of Imprint Films' "Tales of Adventure: Collection 9" blu ray boxed set containing all four aforementioned films in a shiny laminated-cardboard presentation box.

This headline confused me for at least 30 seconds; I was like, "Uh, the Queen is also dead??" 🤨
A screenshot of a Google News feed headline from the BBC. The caption reads: "Queen pass tribute to 'legend' July Cooper after author dies aged 88"

I only found out recently that Harvey Keitel was entirely dubbed throughout the film by Roy Dotrice!

NEW: Extraordinary scenes in Amsterdam this afternoon (Sunday, Oct 5).

An estimated 250,000 bring the city to a standstill; people all wearing red to show solidarity with Palestine 🇵🇸

That'll teach me to just post random thoughts that occur to me on my walk home without due consideration. 😅

Is there any evidence of The One Ring making anyone other than a Hobbit invisible?

Did it maybe only make *Hobbits* invisible because furtiveness & concealment are part of their natural magic?

Perhaps it would've given a Human super-strength, like Gummiberry Juice™. 🤔

It might be called "Thuvia, Maid of Mars", but I'm not sure that's the actual focus of the painting. 😄

I like the no-context "Always keep away from children" at the end of washing-detergent adverts. 😏

I did once have the idea of publishing an edition of Dracula printed using ink that was only visible under a UV blacklight, to make it unreadable to vampires...

no no the publishing industry is doing fine, why do you ask

Jennifer L. Armentrout and Hellmann's
In a promotion designed for BookTok enjoyment, Jennifer L. Armentrout’s just-published THE PRIMAL OF BLOOD AND BONE is available in a special, limited-edition "garlic-scented copy, infused with Hellmann’s Garlic Aioli to create a one-of-a-kind, Craven-proof book." They explain: "This exclusive edition is printed with garlic-infused ink, designed to ward off Armentrout’s bloodthirsty monsters, the Craven. While humans may dread garlic breath, Hellmann’s has cleverly transformed this social faux pas into an unexpected – and delicious – form of supernatural protection."

For a movie that’s 35 years old, Dick Tracy’s make up & prosthetic artists did a fantastic job on the outlandish Dick Tracy villains that still holds up.

Can't remember the name, but I had a big guide to keeping various pets, which I credit with saving the life of my goldfish after I spotted it had a fungal infection and following the medicinal instructions.

It was an American book, and had a section on keeping an Ocelot.

I have only read the first book which I really enjoyed, but I finished it thinking "There's just no way that this is the evolved natural order of this world", so I'm glad to see a hint that there is more going on than meets the eye™.

Just waiting for book 2 to hit paperback!
