I genuinely think these kinds of comments, this kind of developer thinking starts from a position saying "The audience is incurious, impatient, and can't be trusted."

There's a hint of truth there but I think if you design assuming your players are smart and capable, you make better games.

"Go back and play Morrowind and tell me that’s the game you want to play again," said Bruce Nesmith, who worked for Bethesda for over 17 years, adding that playing The Elder Scrolls 3 "would not stand the test of time." https://bit.ly/4q4GoKh

A quick gamedev history story.

When I started my career, there were so few 3d artist the company I was hired by had to start a training school to make enough to actually make a big game.

At first we didn't know anything. Real time 3D was new and primitive, and nobody really had mastered it.

GOOD NEWS! Researchers at the University of Florida have developed a UNIVERSAL vaccine that dramatically BOOSTS the immune system’s ability to fight tumors- even WITHOUT targeting a SPECIFIC cancer type. It has the potential to do away with chemotherapy, surgery AND radiation treatment.

I am completely outvoted here, but I think the first one. It feels more maximal vs the well put together goth asthetic of the second.

The charity we adopted from offered to help look for / but traps out for our cats if they ever got out. I don't know if there is organization in Chicago that can help like that, but maybe another commentor would know.
