like in a way the Reagan revolution was just a newer republican ~service model~ of political organizing leveraging and therefore socializing suburban women into conservative political actors right as older style democratic party machines were falling apart cus of political entropy
i do actually think the american electorate will respond pretty drastically to this administration, but the key thing is does that reaction actually stick? i really dunno, we've lost a lot of the institutional glue and machinery that would socialize voters into a mostly stable majority

Politico received an initial tip that a Taylor staffer had a swastika neatly pinned to his cubicle during a zoom call. When confronted, the congressman’s press office pretty implausibly sought to present the situation as a police matter, and Politico went along with that in its headline and lede.

A federal judge temporarily blocked the mass layoffs the Trump administration is conducting during the government shutdown.

U.S. District Judge Susan Illston said it “is both illegal and is an excess of authority and is arbitrary and capricious.”

yeah this is a Problem if people ever stop believing

if Google or Meta never gets AI revenue to the level they expect they’re still tied to the advertising money faucet, they’ll be fine

if OpenAI’s profits never materialize we are in some shit

(xAI is, well, tied into the Elon Bullshit Machine)
this is one of the best articulations of the AI bear case I've read

most of the AI companies are also massively wealthy and profitable hypercorps, but OpenAI specifically is a bomb planted at the heart of the American stock market helpfully labeled "this is a bomb"

I highly recommend going to your most local No Kings if only to find out which of your community’s grandmas have that dawg in them
i will say that at *my* No Kings protest the Andor and other pop culture themed signs DID read as revolutionary poetry compared to the other two sign types, "FUCK da CHEETO 🖕" held by a tiny grandma and "multi paragraph screed about the National Park Service written in regular ballpoint pen"

I’m trained as a digital humanist which is arguably why I’m deeply invested in the analog.
Folks are really surprised that I am in creative technologies because I work in the analog sphere a lot. However, I am intensely interested in how we can use creative tech...just you know, not for evil. I love all the weird little tech we can put in analog spaces. Also knitting needles are tech.

It's funny how banks have no problem with money if it comes from oppressing workers or destroying environments, but the line is: fraking adult games ☝️
Per Reddit: Steam adult developer in the UK is sitting on a USD equivalent of six figures, can’t find a bank to take his money because the developer creates adult games

I develop adult video games on Steam. I can't find a bank that will actually let me withdraw my money from Steam. Can I get some advice?
Game has sold quite well on Steam. I've got almost £90,000 ready to withdraw after Steam's cut + VAT taken off.

However, it's been 2 months now and I can't find ANY bank in the UK who will let me withdraw my money from Steam. I've been banned/refused/unable to get a business account with:

Wise
Revolut
Monzo
Monese
Chase
Starling
Nationwide
Halifax
Barclays
Lloyds
RBS

It always comes down to, "Where did you get this money from?"

"It's coming from games I sell on Steam."

"Can we see the store page?"

"Sure."

"I'm sorry, we can't do business with you at this time."

It keeps coming down to a commercial decision purely because I make adult content.

What the hell am I supposed to do? I've pretty much exhausted the whole banking system. I just want to be able to be paid for products I've sold.

Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

The plan to send in unaccountable agents to kidnap your neighbors *might* have overplayed its hand when they've lost the people on the "I Saw A Person I Didn't Recognize In My Neighborhood And I Want The Cops To Come Take Them Away" social media app.
It’s happening on Nextdoor too
soooo my Chicagoans, has anyone else's neighborhood facebook group gone from desperately apolitical (regarding federal politics) to at least 40% about ICE/DHS activity and organizing against it? like it's hard to overstate this shift

It’s impossible to overstate how much “abolish ice” is the normie position now here in chicago — just countless random moms at toddler soccer on a park district field asking me where I bought my anti-ice t-shirt. average people don’t like our neighborhoods being terrorized.
A friend ran the Chicago marathon today and said he couldn’t count the number of FUCK ICE signs along the way.

if we are going to have a supreme court that is as powerful as it is, i basically think justices should be forbidden from public comment on their work as well as any supplemental source of income while they are on the bench. (they should also ride circuit again but that's a bit separate.)
The substance of what she's saying is bad and unconvincing, but more fundamentally, I really don't think Supreme Court justices should be going on book tours where they publicly comment on their work and respond to criticism of it. Either put it in a written opinion or hold your peace.
