I kind of love blackberry Dr Pepper Zero? I think the strawberry is just gross, but I got a case of this stuff.

Also, it really encourages me to savor it, because that wonderful blackberry jam flavor recedes as I drink unless I give my taste buds a break.

I gotta say, being measurably stupider and knowing you're measurably stupider really, really sucks.

Most people just don't believe me when I tell them how debilitating my long COVID is. And I know people who have it worse.

No, I'm pretty sure this is GenAI. Shockingly good hands, though fists are easy. Labels are wonky from what I expect. But the jacket sleeve really is the dead giveaway.

Generative algorithms don't understand "clothes" or "glasses" and tend to match parts to nearby stuff instead of correct stuff.

I hope it's a bot, because otherwise it seems like someone drowning in a manic phase. Oof.

I don't like knowing what searches cluster with this particular news piece (about a camper mauled to death by bear he'd previously photographed in his campsite). There's a reason I was on Something Awful but never on Rotten.

Ghirardelli's Ground Chocolate (cocoa, sugar, vanilla IIRC). But only by the dry, crunchy spoonful, standing by the cabinets, and coughing out a cocoa cloud when startled.

Oh, I used to pour myself half a mug and sip slowly. I'd swear sometimes it made my teeth ache. But then I hit 35 and started working to be kinder to my pancreas.

I'll still occasionally do a little shot of creamer when I'm someplace that has free coffee and those tiny cups of it.

"The political ineptitude of the magnates of industry and finance was no less than that of the generals and led to the mistaken belief that if they coughed up large enough sums for Hitler he would be beholden to them."

But by all the gods, who thought that it was a good idea to have game chips get inserted in a divot underneath the battery? You had to remove the battery to swap chips!

Maybe this is like those obvious errors in medieval tapestries: perfect = blasphemy, obvious error = I intended this "mistake"?

Impossible to use for gaming, but absolutely indestructible + good for calls and mp3s. Once you got over feeling weird for talking into a taco, it was great!

Also, for a brief moment in time, it could be acquired for the low low price of dumpster diving.

Don't know if it's the low dose naltrexone kicking in, but I haven't been down a fractal Wikipedia hole like that in a hot second.

Supervillains were invented so that superheroes would stop trying to make the world a better place and would rather spend their time defending a meaningless status quo instead.

Pareidolia is an interesting framing for some human foibles. Face in an arrangement of buildings, sense in ramblings, empathy in innumerable matrices dressed in a lab coat.

We are such a hopeful species. It goes wrong sometimes, sure, but it also gives us furniture that is just trying its best.
cheshious.bsky.social
But seriously, people who aren't familiar with ML almost always do things like assign theory of mind to what is, in fact, hundreds of millions of matrices in a box. We've seen how maladaptive and terrifying it can be when people confuse an LLM with a living creature. We don't need more of that.

Sometimes works for humans, tho! See: bone marrow transplant, adenosine for tachycardia, etc..
cheshious.bsky.social
It results in you trying to use the same heuristics to manage an algorithm/matrix multiplayer as you would on a human.

That seems likely to be reeeeeal inefficient, to start.

Indeed.

LLMs are LLMs.

Machine learning is machine learning.

AIs are Astro Boy, Robby the Robot, Cmdr Data, the Ghost in the Shell Puppet Master, etc. I will not use the term for anything less.

Don’t feed the hype machine. Don’t call it AI.
irisvanrooij.bsky.social
There is absolutely no good faith reason to use the term “AI” for any technology one is selling.

It serves only for dazzling people into thinking the technology has capabilities that it doesn’t.

If one wants a technology to be trustworthy, just use a transparent, informative term without hype.

And once their stupid little teeth puncture the shellac, those things go bad on a regular gourd timeline.

On a related note, you'd probably enjoy this short animation. ('Idiot Creature,' to the tune of 'Beautiful Dreamer.')
