Well I spoke too soon! The Guinea-Bissau study is still going forward, though currently without approval from a US or European ethical board. Still withholding vaccines from newborns. Keep the pressure up, all the ethical people -- we don't need to do another Tuskegee experiment!! 🤬

People here are outside patrolling their neighborhoods in this, trying to keep their neighbors safe from lawless armed masked goons. Armed with whistles and vests, they are essentially fighting a war against their own government and its ethnic cleansing campaign.

This is also a good action-- glad to hear it, OSU!! I mean CBP isn't ICE per se but close enough. The sentiment is enough.

Ok this is great news! I was appalled about this trial when I heard about it (it was a canonical counterexample for all the Belmont principles) -- but it's finally cancelled! (Or going to be modified to address the concerns. Woot!)

Now this is a bright spot. I was worried about these folks. They didn't have many more days before they'd be dead of starvation. 🤕

I’m seeing posts from people (outside of MN) about how US citizens should carry their passports.

And let me say that *inside* MN, we are calmly responding to requests with: “No, I don’t have to show you any documentation.”

Because that’s how you protect everyone, regardless of immigration status.

You don't want homeless folks on your streets? You want to get rid of addiction? You want to be able to feel you can walk downtown safely? Don't stop funding the people who do the front line work!

The problem does not disappear just because you erase it from the budget. 🤬

Holy smokes that's worth a read!! 💪
The letter from Bill and Hillary Clinton to James Comer explaining their refusal to testify in his Epstein investigation is really remarkable, not like any letter of this genre I've seen. It's signed by them, not a lawyer, and the arguments are not legal ones. Reprinted from their X account:

😁 I said to my lab today that if we invade Cuba next week and I can't get back from this conference in the Caribbean I'll be at, to carry on and I'll be back when I can. 😉

The youngest grad student said, oh no, we'll come get you out, don't worry!!

I appreciate the enthusiasm. 👍 😂

These were Xmas presents to myself--a phenomenal choice, full of disorienting worlds and a swooping, fantastic story with No Villain. I laughed, I cried, and there's that sadness when it's done.

It was so rich, so happy. #books

Gah. I need a snappy answer to "what is the impact of your research?"

The joy in people's eyes when they find and understand something no one else has found before -- that doesn't cut it, unfortunately! 😆
