For those interested in paying for a platform that will actively protects its users, here's where you can pay us (Northsky)
I found the fediverse exhausting as every toot about racism was filled with “just make your own instance”
Nah, do not join the fediverse.

As the person that started the first Black led instance in that environment, I had to shut it down based on the sheer amount of unfiltered racism and hate that exists in that space.

And both projects mentioned here are anti-safety and moderation.

Keep looking at all the robots coming out that are still using traditional servos and joints which leads to all the obvious failures. Good to see artificial muscle is getting the love it deserves.
AuraFlex has one of the cooler products at CES 2026. It's what they call a photonic muscle. Basically these soft bundles have an LED in them that makes the material contract in a way that functions like a muscle. You can use them to replace larger mechanical motors

Thankfully @anisota.net wasn't susceptible to this attack, but it did reveal I needed to be doing more to get ahead of other potential platform manipulation — just rolled out several improvements. Ty to @thisismissem.social, @scoiattolo.mountainherder.xyz, & @baileytownsend.dev for their work here!
Be aware that there are accounts attempting to steal session keys. This particular method won’t work using the Bluesky app for a couple of reasons, but third party apps may be vulnerable to similar attempts.

We will attempt to automatically label these as Platform Manipulation.

Docs are the closest thing open source has to a product manager. They decide who can succeed without a private Slack channel. Good docs are inclusive infrastructure.

If you want to change Bluesky’s default moderation settings, go to your moderation settings on the web - bsky.app/moderation. Apple limits adult-content controls inside iOS apps, so you won’t see those options on the iPhone app itself. 1/2

Goodness I was naive to think I could just write up a post with embeds and everything would render properly.

That’s a lot of trust to place on the pds to keep your data safe and protected from attacks. E2EE dms is quite honestly a necessity in this age of information warfare.
IMHO fully featured DMs for AT / Bluesky isn't very complex if you accept that email-level security (TLS) is sufficient.

The complexity comes from insisting on Signal-like E2EE.

All we actually need is AT protocol-based PDS-to-PDS email as a core feature.

Would unlock tons of apps beyond DMs too.
There are a lot of features we can and will build. But photos in DMs and group chats are way outside of scope and so…would really love if bluesky could prioritize that

Kid asked if she could play a horror game. Hesitant, I asked her to show me a video thinking it was something like silent hill or five nights at Freddie’s.
It is Doki Doki Literature’s Club.

Got affinity photo running on Linux, bg3 is running after needing to compile an ancient libssl build.

Things have progressed since I last ran Linux as my desktop 15 years ago.

Just after a day of this I'm highly skeptical about the on/off protocol discourse. Any measure of privacy requires breaking the whole way blobs are created/fetched. If you want to store them in a manner that is private it's immediately considered off protocol unless you're doing hydration gymnastics

Might for the sake of time pressure just go with abusing embeds and use layered validations for reasons.

Digging into lexicons, seems that in theory I can extend the app.bsky lexicon with my own very uniquely named records which is ideal if I'm looking to tweak how records are created while allowing them to be seen by all clients 🤔

Converted my desktop turned server back to a desktop by simply installing a dm on top of fedora server. Lxqt was flakey so I installed kde which was nice, removed lxqt which cause plasma to break and I couldn’t resolve the library issues. Installed cinnamon and it works but sddm randomly chokes.

I would complain Europeans aren’t trying hard enough but we speak too many languages
UPDATE: We may see the first time English is displaced as the most popular language among Bluesky posters as soon as Americans head to sleep tonight.

Japanese users were close to achieving that feat at 7 am Eastern Time, and their activity is increasing at an exponential pace. This is remarkable.

This package throws away data privacy and replaces it with a “tell us if this counts a personal data” model while treating AI as a legitimate interest allowing companies to completely bypass any data privacy protections. Media companies and mobile _devices_ would be exempted from data consent.
The European Commission (EC) is considering a “Digital Omnibus” package that would substantially rewrite EU privacy law, particularly the landmark General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). It’s not a done deal, and it shouldn’t be. www.eff.org/deeplinks/2...

I’m about 70% through building a replacement tool for handling AWS access management from slack and it’s surprisingly not terrible.
Going to finish the core logic today and wrap it up tomorrow then pivot to finishing up a mockup I’ve been chewing. At some point I’ll start the ts course.
