Today in 1956, Don Newcombe earns baseball’s 1st ever Cy Young Award. Newcombe outpaces runner-up and fellow Dodger Sal Maglie in the voting. He is the 1st player to win all 3 major awards in his career after taking home that season’s MVP honors and being named ROY in 1949.

Apologies for the (unpaid!) advertisement, but if you've been tempted to subscribe to the Criterion Channel, I just learned that you can use the code BLACKFRIDAY25 to get 25% off an annual subscription—$75 rather than $100. It's one of the few streaming channels I never regret paying for.

This piece also offers a generous (3000 word) intro that explains what NVIDIA is, how it got so big, how "building data centers" is a very difficult and complex thing, and why the entire future comes down to how long private debt can afford to keep buying GPUs.
Premium: This is The Hater's Guide To NVIDIA: A 14k word guide to how NVIDIA makes its money, how millions of Blackwell GPUs have been sold with nowhere for them to be installed, and how NVIDIA's future relies on companies raising hundreds of billions in debt.

This is one heck of a weird-ass list.
The movie listed at #1 is so incredibly misplaced that it calls into question the veracity of the entire list. It belongs on the list, yes, but SO MUCH further down. An absolute, credibility-wrecking flub. Boo, @variety.com! Boo!
