31 years ago this month, I walked into my first gig in #post #edit industry. My first week was spent cleaning carpet stains. Since then, I've made *tons* of mistakes. I've also learned stuff & helped people win some things. Below are my "core truths". What are yours? #postchat

If you think switching which corporate owned legacy media outlet you consume is the solution, you don't really understand how deep the problem is. It's not just ABS, CBS, WaPo or the LA Times. It's the system in which they work.

The only solution is to support pro-democracy independent media.

Some years back (as a mental exercise) whenever I saw/heard the word "libertarian", I'd substitute (in my mind) "Selfish prat". So far, it's checked out 100% of the time.
Goose meme:
"What's the age of consent on your libertarian island?"
"WHAT'S THE AGE OF CONSENT, MOTHERFUCKER?!"
Belgian crypto billionaire Olivier Janssens is planning to establish a "libertarian community" with its own legal system in Saint Kitts and Nevis.

Here’s the trailer for “Melania”

Reminder: Amazon paid tens of millions of dollars to Melania Trump for this.

"You know why most film makers are liberal? Because our job is to make you care about situations & people. And to do that, we think a lot about that kind of shit & channel it into our work. You don’t care about other people? This is not the job for you."

It hasn't even been twelve hours, but all three of us have been overwhelmed with requests from media for comment and I'm mostly writing this now so they'll leave me alone.
this is such a painful loss. my heart is broken.

I’m just going to tell the story. Back in 2000 I was volunteering for the Gore campaign when he came along with Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Alfre Woodard and Dule Hill to a GOTV event here in MN. He ended up sitting down across from me stuffing his envelopes.

I’m just trying to figure out what million-dollar mattresses are about…
A Hollywood director has been convicted on charges that he scammed Netflix out of $11 million for a show that never materialized, while he instead used the cash for lavish purchases that included several Rolls-Royces, a Ferrari and about $1 million in mattresses and luxury bedding.

The only surefire way to stop oligarchs buying up the things we love is to drop those things the moment oligarchs buy them & that requires changing habits and massive self-discipline.
It means going to alternatives that might not be quite as good or convenient.
It’s really hard. But there it is.

The only use case for creative awards (that I see) is to get people to see films they might not otherwise ever hear about...

Has anyone thought to ask Cotton his opinion on the Sacklers? Does he think they deserve to be targeted with a drone strike?
WELKER: Is there any hard evidence showing this particular boat was headed to the US?

TOM COTTON: That didn't come up in my briefing

WELKER: Are you comfortable having the US target a boat that you're not sure is heading to the US?

COTTON: I'm not just comfortable with it -- I want to continue it

A neat thing about birthright citizenship is how it tests whether a person cares at all about the Constitution. There's no argument against it, birthright citizenship is the unambitious text, the obvious intent of the drafters, and the undisputed way it was followed for the past 150+ years.
I continue to think that Matty coming out against birthright citizenship a few months ago should have been taken as a major warning sign that the group chats have already decided to surrender on this.

Netflix buying Warner Brothers is the day that Netflix officially becomes the establishment. It is both the day of their ascendancy and also the day that Netflix admits that they are now the incumbent power yearning to be disrupted by whatever comes next.
