Former Mayor Eric Adams personally ordered city officials to reopen a park drive on Staten Island to motorists last year, according to internal communications obtained by Streetsblog.

They were forced to act within a single day to appease the mayor and his car-driving allies.

Another great piece from @elienyc.bsky.social “Trump will lose this case because he’s trying to mess with something the Supreme Court thinks is important. I wish we all could be so lucky as to appear valuable to John Roberts and the Supreme Court.”
Why are Republicans on the Supreme Court poised to treat firing Fed Commissioners different from Trump firing everybody else? Because Republicans on the Supreme Court like money.

Insurance rates are high because of the volume and severity of harm generated by cars in the state. You can either reduce these rates by addressing the harm or by taking Uber's idea and simply zeroing out certain victims of that harm, as though the harm hadn't happened. Magic!
"I do agree that insurance rates are very high, but we have to figure this out, because I do think victims of accidents [sic] need to have their settlements and their days in court," NY State Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie told reporters.

I'll say it again: This proposal would ensure that certain victims of traffic violence get zeroed out, to the direct benefit of the drivers who cause that traffic violence.

It's looking at the severity of traffic violence in NY and deciding that the problem is the fact that victims get paid.
Big business and shadowy tech giants are behind Gov. Hochul's proposal to lower car insurance premiums and reduce compensation to crash victims, betraying her claim that she's merely focused on "affordability."

It's also a crime for which you can be pardoned and relieved of compensating your victims, so long as some of the money you stole finds its way to the president.

I continue to think the other shoe is going to drop on the DOGE raid of our federal agencies. They didn't steal all of our extremely sensitive personal information for no reason.
What if the goal was to loot federal databases for their wealth of priceless private information on hundreds of millions of Americans--our tax records, Social Security #s, mortgage filings--& use that data to punish political enemies & train the surveillance technologies owned by the Broligarchs?

One lie SCOTUS has been telling us about its shadow docket decisions is that it's ok for them to be basically unreasoned and vibes-based bc they're "interim" and subject to revision after a fuller record develops.

Well, this would be a great opportunity for Kavanaugh to show he's willing to revise.
The Supreme Court only cleared the way for Kavanaugh Stops four months ago and ICE now openly engages in violent racial profiling, snatching anyone who looks non-white and treating them as presumptively guilty of a crime. Remarkable how quickly our liberties can be crushed when courts go along.
Can confirm I have personally seen three attempts just today of agents in a convoy of ICE vehicles trying to snatch random POCs along Central Ave - and then being chased off by neighbors with whistles. It's blatant racial profiling.

Minneapolis city council member says POC should stay home:

This is a very, very stupid idea. This would shift the cost of hurting people from the drivers who do the harm to the people who suffer it.

Uber, who is a bad corporate citizen, is pushing this, since their business causes a great deal of harm and they don't want to pay for it.
