It can be difficult to take the NYPD seriously as a law enforcement organization when it straightforwardly refuses to enforce the law when it applies to themselves.

We really do have two different kinds of law now: District Court law (aka the law), and Supreme Court "law" (aka the U.S. House of Lords upholding Trump's personalist regime)
I don’t know what the Supreme Court will do, but I am confident that at the District Court level it is still the case that the Pentagon cannot recall a sitting US Senator to active duty in order to court martial him for something he said. Article 1, Section 6, among other constitutional provisions.

The number of ways this is disgraceful behavior from the Secretary of Defense is...a lot.

Service members do have a duty to refuse illegal orders

All Americans have a 1st Amendment right to say that out loud.

I once knew a Federal bank examiner, and one time someone asked him why we had to KEEP inspecting banks over and over. He basically said every new batch of business school grads invents bank fraud from first principles.

The underlying cause of every bubble - debt masquerading as financial innovation - depends on not just short financial memory & speculative neophytism, but reinventing jargon of finance, like how each generation of kids has new ways to say same things.

This article - which credits Tisch for some meaningful change at the NYPD - has pushed me closer to the "maybe it's good she stayed" camp.

There's so much more for her and Mamdani to do, but I don't see evidence that she's incapable of doing it.
Let's go over what we asked of NYPD Commissioner Tisch back when she got the job — and how well she's done on hewing to our livable streets and traffic safety agenda.

So the mayor-elect says he'll keep Jessica Tisch as his police commissioner. What do we think of that?

I didn't even realize this kind of thing was still an option with this DOJ. Like obviously half the administration is doing illegal things, and often telling us about it. But to have them facing potential criminal exposure for doing so is a weird feeling.

Absolutely incredible; after shooting Marimar Martinez 5 times and arresting her on claims that she rammed them and pulled a gun, prosecutors have now moved to dismiss ALL criminal charges against her and her codefendant.
New: the govt has moved to dismiss its assault case against Marimar Martinez and Anthony Ian Santos Ruiz, two people accused of "box[ing] in" a Border Patrol vehicle in Chicago on Oct. 4.

One agent shot Martinez, with evidence presented to the court that he later bragged about in text messages.

Hard not to suspect that the thing that kept Epstein's documents secret and any actual co-conspirators safe is that every single person who has ever attended an East Coast gala has, at some point or another, sent Epstein an email that was like "SUBJECT: So sorry for the witchhunt against you"

Was this email among those on Pam's desk? Was it handed to one of the influencers who got invited to the White House for the big Epstein disclosure party?

(It tickles me that one of my law school classmates was among the marks handed the "Epstein files" and he ate it up.)

I'm confused. On her way from a prison cell to Club Fed, Epstein's personal child sex trafficker insisted that the President of the United States knew nothing.

Was the child sex trafficker lying?
Epstein: “I want you to realize that that dog that hasn’t barked is trump..[VICITM] spent hours at my house with him, he has never once been mentioned. police chief. etc. im 75 % there.”

Maxwell: “I’ve been thinking about that.”
