I grew up with several Mormon friends and they all ended up;
1. Extremely conservative or
2. No longer Mormon
Also absent from elite institutions? Um... No? Many are quite powerful in politics. They've also rewritten tourist understanding of Hawaii w/the "Polynesian" cultural center

My theory is that there are lots of powerful groups who dislike Mormons, real life mormons are heavily geographically concentrated, and they're almost completely absent from mass media or "elite" institutions. So they're easy to pick on, and most people dont actually know many mormons (if at all)
