Picture how big the Hoover Dam is. An absolute unit. The Hoover Dam has a power capacity of 2 gigawatts (GW).

The solar farm that the Admin just cancelled could have produces 6.2 GW of power. That's more than 3 Hoover Dams.

SCOOP: The Bureau of Land Management says the largest solar project in Nevada — the Esmeralda 7 mega-farm — has been canceled

The news was quietly dropped via a sudden website update with no public word from any of the companies involved or a statement from the agency

Very sincere thanks to everyone who has offered condolences for our Fergus. I can’t respond to everyone individually but my boyfriend and I have been reading all the responses and they mean a lot to us. I just wanted to show you this, the last photo I took of him.
Photo of my handsome, fluffy, brown tabby, cat Fergus, lying on a velvety brown blanket against a pile of laundry.

A coworker introduced us to Lemars' "bugals" a couple years ago - I think they were some kind of paprika or red pepper flavor. Very good snacks as well!

Got to keep practicing my watercolors. Worked perfectly for some smoke. Could have done more shading wise but I made it too small for my brush skills.

Keep Portland Weird and Strong.
An image of a watercolor illustration lined in black ink. The illustration is of the Portland Frog flashing a peace sign while standing in purple smoke. It says “I’ve had spicier”

As I’m taking an off day to enjoy being in this magnificent forest, I’m not doing much riding today. Did take a quick ride into Meyers Flat to get some lunch, & I saw this patch of #redwood forest that I stopped at. Such big trees. For reference, I’m 170cm tall.

The Eel River is a constant companion along the Avenue of the Giants. Both times I’ve seen it (now & back in 2021) it has seemed to be running a bit shallow, but I’m sure that’s fine. Totally fine. Right? 😥

Still it is mighty pretty when it shows itself though the trees. 🌲🚵🏼‍♂️👍🏼

Heh. As I was taking my phone off the QuadLock mount to take some pictures of the Avenue of the Giants, I accidentally pressed the photo button & got the first shot, which isn’t bad if you ignore my head intruding. 😅 Anyway, the Avenue is a magical place.

And sadly, all good things must come to an end. Goodbye, Avenue of the Giants, perhaps my favorite route to #bicycle in the entire US. Hello again US101 with all of your truck traffic (but hey, quite a lot of wide shoulders!).

So...just wondering whether I produce more carbon (including indirectly from food production) if I reach over to lock my phone (so that the screen blanks) than a modern LED cell phone consumes. I'm slim, but, seems like more electromechanical energy needed to move my hand.
clapptrap.bsky.social
...'sat' there and left the phone alone (screen on). A modern phones' battery will have the capability to produce many thousands of calories (when converted from watt-hours), and even left with screen on, it will be substantially less than calories consumed to make movements to turn it off.
clapptrap.bsky.social
You (we) will always be very inefficient when compared to modern technology that consumes power, whether in calories or other means. Without running the napkin math, yes, you will both produce more carbon and consume more energy reaching for the phone and pushing a button, than if you had just...
