New FFXIV video day! Let's talk about that big reveal in 7.3, everything it could mean...

And all the reasons it's a terrible idea they shouldn't have done. And how even if there's good ways to take this, it might have already done the worst damage it could.

Final Fantasy XIV's story may have just made its biggest mistake.

All of this completely explains to me why, when Cygames got to do a Final Fantasy collab, they went for XI instead of XIV.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's him, but the general energy doesn't read right.

I dealt with that guy on the forums, he was WAY more actively condescending. Always wrote with 'looking down his nose at you' vibes.

'Make them fear god and then force them to MEET it' is one hell of a strategy

Airports are the most terrifying place I ever have to actually go to, I'm always scared that I'll somehow cause an international incident by being Bad At Airport.

Online check-in is a godsend, at least it removes ONE place I could fuck up!

In Final Fantasy Tactics if a unit gains too much faith they leave your party to go find God. Have you ever wondered what would happen if you had Beast Tongue and got a monster unit to maximum faith? Of course you haven't. No one has.

...It's too much to hope that there's some way to weaponize this and spend the game being so much of an evangelist that your ENEMIES give up and go find god, isn't it?

IT BEGINS

(Well it begins tomorrow, but there's already one cosplayer here, so yes, it has begun!)

That's more of a Warrior problem than a deep dungeon problem.

And as a firmly 90s kid, the turtles just did not exist to me.

...outside of that one time the live-action TV show crossed over with Power Rangers.
cleretic.bsky.social
Yeah, sadly the next set is TMNT, because 90s kids are nonexistent to Wizards.

I feel like the writers THINK they wrote a story where everyone is a flawed fuckup trying their best, but then just happened to write it so that only the only people ever vindicated either by fact or self-improvement are always the men.

Yeah, I'm still getting a handle on the Traverse, but the 50s are definitely when it starts REALLY throwing hands.

My gut feel is that there's a couple enemies (the big ants in particular) that have things we need to watch for, and we just don't know what we're looking for yet.

Taking this approach does bring in some fun quirks, though. Like, a knock-on effect of Dawntrail wound up being indirectly canonizing -Shadowbringers- because now all that weird nonsense about 'the First' is actually plausible instead of being weird fringe nonsense!

I mostly have Ein aware of events as much as she reasonably would be, as a primal researcher living in Ul'dah. A lot of it is just current events she hears about, that doesn't necessarily affect her.

She knows more about Necron than she does anything else that happened in Dawntrail.

For those whose OCs are primarily Non WoL, how do you handle the existence of the MSQ? Do you have a separate WoL? Does your lil guy get to play pretend before resuming their regular life? Or do you just ignore it?

It can all go up in smoke in six seconds, but it's SO GOOD!

To a degree it's correct to cool off and re-examine things in retrospect, but this doesn't feel like that, this just feels like being mad that a healer didn't know their place.
cleretic.bsky.social
I'd argue that a better way to expand healer kits is to give them other non-healing support tools, but it's not like they're doing THAT either.
cleretic.bsky.social
Genuinely I think some people are just mad healers have any complaints at all, ever.
cleretic.bsky.social
I once had someone get mad at me that I wasn't also standing up for the tanks, because that fight also ignores the aggro table.

And, like... yeah, they're ALSO allowed to be mad at that, actually!
cleretic.bsky.social
They genuinely get too mad to easily follow. But my best read is that they look at any healer complaining that they don't get to heal enough as an 'honest healer' who ONLY wants to heal.

Even when we're talking about the fight that literally removes all capacity for the healers to heal, whatsoever.

It has Esuna-able debuffs!

...that's all! You're reduced to your DPS tools and Esuna.
cleretic.bsky.social
My bad feelings started when Gustave won an argument by shouting in Lune's face and storming off, and then the game making him right to do it.
cleretic.bsky.social
Anyway, thank you to the devs who designed Arkveld Extreme for NOT doing that this time!

It's almost like they recognized a mistake and did better the next time. Crazy.
cleretic.bsky.social
The most weirdly mad I ever see FFXIV players get happens when I say that I don't like Rathalos Extreme for not letting healers heal.

It's genuinely bizarre, you dare say 'but I don't WANT to be reduced to one and a half buttons' and the hatred of a thousand suns is directed at you personally.
