This is the kernel of truth at the heart of every business investigation we've published or considered. At best, crowdfunding allows a tabletop creator to be good at bad business.
But the way that the TTRPG industry uses it, as a high-profile, boom-or-bust product launch strategy that leverages flashy upsells and manufactured urgency to try to make number go up, that stakes 6-18 months of work on how big that number gets, structurally produces precarity and volatility.

I ran DCC once and it’s very unlikely I’ll do so again. The amount of parsing required to download everything into my brain is just too much :(
