There was a meeting at our city hall about trans safety and these are the notes I wrote for an impromptu speech I gave, one of about 20 that evening. I'm definitely gonna be attending more meetings and giving more speeches in the future.
Text that reads:

I am set to perform at the Avenue Cafe on Saturday, to use my freedom of speech, but I've never had more stage fright in my entire life. In 15 years doing drag, burlesque, and performance art, I've never been this scared.

The first amendment is not equally applied to everyone. Some people have more freedom to speak than others and some of those people have used their free speech to threaten the trans community.

We have laws against hate speech, but laws that aren't enforced fail to be laws.

Why we have hate speech laws is because hate speech is terrorism. An act of terrorism has been committed in Lansing. One man's words have terrified the queer and trans people of this entire city. The terrorism doesn't start with the gun, it starts with the words.

A balloon popped at the Ave and people thought we were about to be the next Pulse massacre. And it got me wondering, if that gunman had given warning that he was coming, would anyone have taken steps to prevent it? Would anyone be proactive about it, or would they also be met with a shrug?

Ally is useless as a noun. It's a verb. It requires action. Reaction is almost always too late.

That's what I want to know. Does it just cost that much to run the servers while it destroys the local ecology and water supply?

Oh number 12. The absolute audacity of it to haunt me everywhere I go.

Been a year. Time to repost this.
YOUR PORTFOLIO CRIT
THINGS I'D TELL YOU IF I WERE LOOKING AT YOUR WORK IN PERSON
1 Violating the 180 degree rule makes this sequence hard to follow
2 A few more incidental overlaps will make this foreshortening clearer
3 Symmetrical compositions with a character dead center imply an important moment. Don't draw every panel like that?
4 This __ looks kind of fake. Take the time to look at reference instead of just making it up
5 An establishing shot will help the reader understand where this takes place.
6 Find a life-drawing session to attend, or practice from photos online.
7 Show these pages to someone who doesn't know the story and ask them to tell the story back to you.
8. Nudge this part over a bit to eliminate that tangency.
9 You flattened out the depth by rendering the foreground, middle ground, & background with the same values. Create depth and direct the eye by organizing them into overlapping planes of light & dark.
10 there are better ways to use your time than rendering every brick.
11 these characters look like they're floating (or falling). Draw figures and bg from the same eye level.
12 Unless this will be a wordless comic, leave more room for the lettering

From a writer group post someone sent me: "...the attitude now is so exclusive and unwelcoming for those of us who are either pro-AI or use AI"

GOOD JOB, EVERYONE, KEEP MAKING THEM FEEL UNWELCOMED, YOUR SHAME IS WORKING. 🥰

"How deeply unpleasant it is to learn art the right way" . . . MOST THINGS are deeply unpleasant to learn when you are learning them. I wish these people would just say they don't want to learn to Draw, they just want the drawing done- and they don't care whose face they step on in the process.

There are always caveats that just don't hold up to what they think a "real" woman is. It always devolves. Always.
coreylabrie.bsky.social
All my life, As a woman with as she- oh so delicately put it "faulty equipment" I have heard this joking sentiment from so many other women. Only to have them turn around and say "well if you don't menstruate-" or "well if you don't have children-" or "well if its not EMERGENCY surgery-"

Yes. I am right. I am seeing how Chat GPT is ruining students critical thinking and writing skills in real time. It is not the future. It is a tool designed to render the populace helpless, to make people doubt their innate intelligence, and to foster overreliance on technology.

I think Duke really hit how I've felt for the past week. Squatchcon was a blast, can't wait to go next year. Thanks to everyone who came to the panels, or stopped by my booth to say hello- I really appreciate it!
