Canada, for all intents & purposes, is a #petrocacy that serves the interests of the fossil fuel cartel. In BC, it's ironic they suck down vast quantities of water to produce the fossil fuels that burn the planet. The public? Go buy bottled water if your wells are dry. 2/2

Environmental groups are calling on the B.C. government to raise industrial water rates as drought deepens and demand for freshwater rises in some areas of the province.

It's pretty wild to me that investigators have uncovered that anti-trans campaigns are largely funded by the fossil fuel industry, and that the presumed motivations are pretty directly to redirect the public conversation away from climate change... and that this isn't bigger news.

by definition. something that is "unsustainable": it wont last.

unlikely we will take down the fossil fuel hegemony and aggressively pursue #degrowth so best get ready. #climatechange #prepping #survival

63 years ago, on the 27th of September 1962, Rachel Carson's book Silent Spring was published. It handled the environmental harm caused by the pesticide DDT and the disinformation spread by the chemical industry. Carson managed to sway public opinion and even policy. #otd #history 🗃️

For more than 10 years, I have been showing you better construction methods, building materials, and better ways of working. For just as long, you have been rejecting them, claiming that they are more expensive.
Problem:
There is no alternative to sustainable construction.

G described the 30s: a moment when the dominant order had begun to decay, yet no new force had emerged to take its place. It birthed monsters: “The crisis consists precisely in the fact that the old is dying and the new cannot be born; in this interregnum, a great variety of morbid symptoms appear.”
Why do we need to #talkcollapse? Why do I keep burning people's #hopium?

"Once we let go of hope, we can also let go of hopelessness. Only when we acknowledge that it will not get better do we gain an opportunity to make the most out of what remains."

Currently reading Silent Spring (published 1962), so this story hits particularly hard. Of course we’ve moved on in 63 years, and novel chemicals are more regulated, but I guess we have scaled up everything dramatically so the problem is just as serious overall.
