I have just realized that while I was sick with covid, I missed my book's first birthday, and how my world has changed with it.
Revenge of Captain Vessia, my darling Vampirate revenge story, is an award finalist. I've been to two conventions, and on my way to Hal-con in Nov. (1/5)

Video game: When you're ready-
Me: Right, do this thing absolutely last and come back later only after I'm absurdly overleveled and explored every nook and crany of the world before this thing you're about to suggest, obviously that's what you mean right

When I was first starting out back in the 2000s, the logic of living while trans was to lie or never bring it up in the first place. Whether it was lying to the pych about lived experience for HRT or being stealth to get employed. If you didn't lie, you didn't *live*
on employment as a trans woman

“Right now the focus should be on supporting the community in mourning, not weaponizing this event as hate against a vulnerable group at large.”

I hate profoundly that articles like this need to be written when, like Mel says, the focus should be on community. But thank you Mel for writing ❤️
NEW from me today:

Tumbler Ridge is mourning a horrific loss. But how the shooter's identity is being talked about online, and the dangerous links being made to trans people at large, will have resounding and dangerous impacts in the months and weeks to come.

No one knew my grandfather's actual name until we found one of his old report cards from grade school in the attic after he died
All names are made up
Baffled by transphobes insisting that the name on your birth certificate is Your True Name Forever when it was common in my grandparents' generation to just...pick a name you like and use that, nbd. I literally found out both of my grandma's birth certificate first names FROM THEIR OBITUARIES.

Best book I've read in recent times, so criminally underrated.

If I had a nickel for every time the MCs said they'd die for the other, and then actually nearly accomplish doing just that, I'd have too many nickels

Delicious book, you should all read it, and I can't wait for what Aubrey does next!
🌸✨GIVEAWAY✨🌸

Name Her Holy's 1st anniversary is coming up on the 13th??

So I thought I'd do a signed hardcover giveaway (with a little front page sketch for fun). I will literally ship this anywhere so international friends feel free to join!

Phillip here touching on something I struggled with coming into being an indie NS author, which was the capacity for Canadian book reviews was so barebones that I could barely find anyone to forward my book to for discussion and reviews. Even less so because my work is purely SFF.

I had a random thought while grocery shopping tonight, and once I got home, I counted all my wordcounts from all my projects since I started writing.

2.8 *million* words.

My only published work has about 118,000

The amount of work that goes unseen when folks read our stories sure is something lol

It sucks to question the kindness of the world, because like, I value being kind so much. But everyday the world gets harder to be kind to.
But then I'll have one patron who's so delighted that I got him more silly books that he says "wahoo!" In the library, and my week is made

There was a closeted little girl in 1998 who felt whole for the first time when she wore women's clothes. When her stepdad found out he threatened to kill her.

It takes her 14 more years to come out. It shouldn't take so long
There was a closeted little girl in 1989 who felt happy when she'd secretly try on women's clothes or makeup, but who got in trouble when her rural Texas family found out.

When her body changed years later she felt wrong and sad

It took her 30 more years to come out. It shouldn't take so long.
there was a closeted little girl in 1986 praying every single night to wake up in the right body, the only prayer she really meant. she instinctively knew it wasn’t safe to tell her parents; she’d be forced to see a priest and confess

it took her 38 more years to come out

it shouldn’t take so long

Also probably no practical difference in consequences because no one will stand up for anyone. I don't think collective security against the US is a thing. They can literally pick us off one by one if they choose. Which is the whole reason behind the concept of collective security, but here we are.
There's no legal difference between kidnapping Maduro and kidnapping Mark Carney.

What terrifies me most about today is that I think theyre either going to say 'mission accomplished' and let Venzuela pick up the pieces and become justifably hostile or theyre going to plop in a puppet regime and set up another Afghanistan.
Either way, the US has blood on it's hands.
As always.
