Pals from The Old Place may recall that when Firstborn was at Newcastle Uni we often came to Tynemouth to spend February Half Term with her.

Although she finished her degree ages ago, the Tynemouth trips continue, and the sun still rises at the same time.

Spotted in Belfast Airport - apparently Heverlee “premium” pilsner is brewed to the “original recipe” which dates back to 1129. Surprised by this, given that lager yeast didn’t emerge until the 15th century and pilsner didn’t exist until 1842. ABInBev really don’t give a shit about beer or drinkers.

📢 NEW BLOG POST

Over the course of a pint in an unfamiliar boozer, I think about the "proper jobs" I could've explored, what it means to be a bartender, and why it is so hard to leave.

If Not This, Then What?
A few weeks of being asked if I was ‘getting a proper job’ prompts me to head to the pub and think about paths not taken and the lot of the bartender.

I had a pint of Wylam brewery's 'Plain' porter on cask at The Magnet last night, and it was about 100x more delicious than any nitro stout I have ever had, and just as drinkable.

CELLARS is a 6.2% bock, brewed with "Most" hops. It tastes like strawberries hay and honey. It's usually a taproom exclusive but I have decided to release it wider.

Des was always one of our favourite people to be on a judging table with. From the first time we met him, he was always incredibly welcoming, kind, and such an interesting person to chat to.

His passion for the beer industry, and support for everyone in it is an example to us all ❤️
Terribly sad to hear of passing of Des de Moor, an absolute gentleman, kind & generous. Talented writer of award-winning books inc. his comprehensive Cask, London's Best Beer & Pubs. Des conducted historic pub tours of London sharing his passion & knowledge. You will be missed RIP
