most libraries just want to see people using their services. doesn't usually matter if you had fines or late materials in the past, check with your local library but many of them have forgiven fines if they're now fine-free, and staff usually don't care or judge on late items unless it's damaged.

A lot of libraries have way more than movies/shows or books, audio or otherwise. Many have tons of community programs, maker spaces for arts/crafts, computer/wifi/print/copy access, seed libraries, community resources... all free to borrow or cheap with a library card, & many did away with late fees

sign up for a free library card at your local library, and you can also access huge amounts of books/graphic novels/magazines on your phone/mobile devices via the Libby app - you can return digital copies without worrying about getting your ass back to the library to drop-off books.

The fact that a user can be suspended purely for that even when appealing and proving they aren't using it maliciously is why the right to privacy needs to be normalized
