Interesting interview with Councillor Cathy Deagle Gammon in Laker News. She says she stands by her July vote in favour of a 2-way bikeway on Morris Street, but if there’s new information brought forward she’ll consider that info.

Also that she wouldn’t have run for council under a strong mayor

Bike lanes are just an excuse. Our local democracy is under attack. With Fillmore's track record, he hasn't earned our trust to be given more power.

Local Democracy works!

Write the mayor, the premier, your councillor and MLA.

It was good to see @tomflood.bsky.social there in spirit through his Sacrifices t-shirt, proudly worn by a @criticalmasshfx.bsky.social attendee (more great stuff at www.creativebyrovelo.com/shop), plus a @thewaroncars.bsky.social sticker on a fender of a bike #BikesBuildCommunity #BikeHFX 3/3
A person standing next to a bike on a lawn wearing a t-shirt that shares all the sacrifices children have made for drivers (there are many) and those that drivers have made for children (there are none) in recognition of the inequities on our streets when cars dominate. There are buildings in the background. A close-up image of a bicycle fender with a "War on Cars" sticker on it.

Another new bike lane in Halifax #BikeHfx

The Westerwald segment of the Dutch Village Road is complete with landscaping. And it's an incredible transformation! This space now feels like it's made for humans.

Two slip lanes gone, so much more green, and bike lanes ofc :-)
Trees, bike lane, new sidewalk Trees, bike lane, sidewalk! Trees, bike lane, sidewalk!

Last night's @criticalmasshfx.bsky.social took participants up sleepy Morris Street, where Nova Scotia premier Tim Houston has vowed to override local democracy to stop a planned bike lane.

#BikeHfx, please write your MLA!
A crowd of many cyclists on Morris Street in Halifax. A child sitting in the cargo box of a cargo bike is using a handheld machine to blow bubbles while an adult and child on another bike look on and smile. Two participants in Critical Mass Halifax cycle past a group of pedestrians who are smiling and waving. One of the cyclists is riding a bike with a sign attached to it that says "BIKE GOOD MAYOR BAD". The other cyclist is wearing a sign that says "BIKES FOR DEMOCRACY". Val, a Critical Mass participant, looks into the camera while riding a red bicycle on Morris Street in Halifax A group of 100-200 cyclists approaches the intersection of Morris and South Park streets in Halifax. A Halifax Transit bus passes in the background but otherwise traffic is extremely light.

Even with the political mess we’re in now and all the delays, I feel more hope than I did then. It’s impossible to deny the way the #BikeHfx community has grown and we truly are a community. That’s where my hope comes from.
$25M allows Halifax to shift bike lane project into high gear | CBC News
A 10-year plan to add to Halifax's bike lanes is now a three-year plan thanks to money from Ottawa and the government of Nova Scotia. All told, the three levels of government are contributing $25 mill...

All the experts agree: bike lanes make roads safer for everyone, including drivers. And they reduce congestion. Why are Houston and Fillmore so out of touch with the facts?
cyclehalifax.ca
Houston, we have a problem! Deputy Mayor Mancini sets the record straight -- all parties were consulted and approved the Morris St bike lane plan, including Emergency Health Services and the Port Authority. What has changed?
cyclehalifax.ca
Congestion: everyone hates it. Houston has the power to reduce it. If that was his goal.
