Chilli growing, photography, cooking stuff, rugby watching, paddle boarding, occasional Land Rovers and general Cornwall things. Also tax. Mostly in Penzance, sometimes London. Not Cornish.

Very noisy tawny owlet photo (in the camera's defence, it was pretty much dark and I was using a 300mm zoom at ISO 12800). There are a pair in the garden and at the moment they spend every night shrieking for food at 5 second intervals which is cute for at least an hour.

Why Cornwall can't have a normal connecting flight service from Newquay to London, part 94. Beyond the suspiciously large rage-bait numbers it looks like nobody wants to bid within the parameters of the tender - not clear whether this is "final" or just a negotiating step.

Cornwall's subsidised flights to London due to be scrapped
If the service continues it is likely to cost taxpayers between £14 million and £16 million over the next four years

Sharing in case anyone in the rugby community can help the Pirates - the two storms have had a big impact on the club and insurance only goes so far with the costs of relocating home games to another venue.
Cornish Pirates crowdfunder: trying to support the recovery effort after Storm Goretti took out one stand, and then Storm Ingrid damaged the other. Any help from the Bluesky rugby community would be gratefully received - more details of the impact on the ground and the club is on the link below.

Disappointing news from Doncaster Rugby - not a great sign for the Champ that one of the most consistent applicants for promotion (and the only one "allowed" up at present) is moving away from a fully professional model.

Just a reminder to rugby presenters, journalists and pundits.

The potential closure of a rugby club by, effectively, its own governing body *is* a rugby matter.

Please don't report on this kind of issue and then say "but can't we talk about rugby?".

You already are.

Difficult time for Cornish Pirates as the extent of damage to the grandstand from Storm Goretti continues to become clear (first the roof, then more of the structure, now the electrics...) - thanks to Camborne Rugby Club for agreeing to host and hope there's a good turnout on Saturday.
Important announcement: Saturday's match vs Ampthill has been moved to Camborne as a result of storm damage at the Mennaye and will kick off at the earlier time of 2pm.

Full details of ticketing arrangements etc are at the link below.

"Enjoying" the observations from Gwennap Head, with the 77mph gust a few minutes ago matching up with the experience of the house now moving quite a lot.
