We really need a fed law that makes it nearly impossible for federal law enforcement officers to dress like this. Not just the masks, all of it. And those who do cannot be dispatched absent some sort of statutorily-defined exigent circumstances, set at a high bar. No routine work like this. Ever.
Border Commander Greg Bovino stands outside a South Minneapolis gas station this morning with BORTAC officers in what seemed like an effort to draw more and more people to the scene as other agents shoot high resolution video of the crowd yelling and blowing whistles.

Attn news commentators: Trump saying he could use force to obtain Greenland but won’t is not Trump saying he won’t use force to obtain Greenland. It is Trump using force as a threat to obtain Greenland. That is why he mentions it.

Strange moment on #AllIn with @chrislhayes.bsky.social when Sen Van Hollen talks about how EU leaders need to stand up to Trump bc he’s a bully and that’s all he knows. And then Hayes asks if VH will vote for a compromise DHS funding bill. So EU must see this as crisis but bus as usual in Senate?

If you just listen to the tone of Scott Bessent's voice, he might seem like an entitled out-of-touch elitist who has no clue what life is like for normal people.

But if you listen to his actual *words* you'll have confirmation that's absolutely right.
Bessent: "Someone, maybe your parents for their retirement have bought 5, 10, 12 homes."

Some perspective: The S&P opened down -1.3% on Trump's Greenland saber-rattling. That's $750 billion of wealth destroyed -- roughly equal to estimates of the value of Greenland.

And so ~in dollar terms~ his shenanigans have already cost the US one Greenland, and we've got nothing to show for it.

I cannot express how it makes me feel to see my Minneapolis neighbors living every day in the line of fire, risking injury, imprisonment, and death at the hands of a tyrant, while these soft, empty suits prance around at Davos and hope that if they pretend hard enough he’ll go away.

New in PN: Trump's talk of canceling elections is a sign of desperation

"His wistful 'jokes' are an admission on his part that, in 2026, he is going to lose, and we — the people and the Constitution — have the upper hand."
Trump's talk of canceling elections is a sign of desperation
He wouldn't be talking this way if his numbers weren't terrible.

/4 Deciding to disrupt a church service to protest the pastor being an ICE director sounds like something that‘s a good idea in people’s heads, in the world they wished we live in, based on how they think people ought to react.

I really appreciate people explaining to Christians that they should be hassling their fellow congregants.

Disturbing people while they worship, no matter how much you hate them, is not only wrong, it's a stupid tactic that will never go your way if you're trying win hearts and minds in public.
I respect your opinion but I don't really understand why we all act like the people in a church are somehow innocent children. They are grown adults and should also be questioning their pastors participation and the hypocrisy of his actions against his faith.

It's cool that these guys just use pepper spray casually now, against people who are wholly within their rights, without a moment's hesitation. Several shots of them using it as they climb into their cars and drive away, not even a pretense of urgency or need. Just a parting "fuck you" to them.
This is what happened in our neighborhood yesterday. ICE snatched a human being off of our streets, roughed them up badly, and then pepper sprayed legal observers as they documented it all. This is a daily occurrence happening all throughout Minnesota right now.

New in PN: Trump's long-awaited healthcare "plan" is a joke

"Is it great? No. Is it a plan? Not really. It is, however, in its combination of stupidity, ideological derangement, and unseriousness, a near-perfect expression of Trump and his party."

He will without any exaggeration destroy America, reduce this country to a lawless mafia state, start a civil war, start a world war, kill us all, or all at once.

And the biggest obstacle to preventing this remains not his objective strength but that OUR LEADERS WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE THREAT.

Impeachment is for literally whatever you want it to be. Trump could be impeached for saying “fuck.”
Someone asked me if Trump can be impeached for taking away health care or not supporting gun control.

The answer is yes. Of course!

I think he gets a lot right, but what he misses is perhaps more informative.
This David French article shows the analytic peril of ignoring the way normal policing and repression work in communities of color. The so-called "dual state" he's highlighting (laws applied unequally, non-compliance met with violence) is *exactly* what Black Lives Matter was protesting.
