All right! My tri-coastal Super Bowl spread. Clam chowder for Boston, Seattle style teriyaki chicken for the Pacific Northwest, and maque choux from the Gulf Coast to pull it all together. Who am I rooting for? Whoever is behind.

Because we're talking about the New Fire ceremony tonight, they get to play with this site. It's a fantastic reconstruction of the city of Tenochtitlan. It'll really help the students visualize a place they're just freshly learning of and will maybe never get to see. tenochtitlan.thomaskole.nl

re: that reskeet of the Tarrant County, TX election results…I'm *from* Tarrant County, pre-Portland. I was involved in activism & government in Fort Worth. I can personally attest that a 31-point swing toward a Democrat in Tarrant County TX state senate is absolutely bonkers banana pants.

A 31 point swing?!! Rattled they should be. No gerrymander will hold against that size wave.

OK. I will call you crazy. ACA insurance is not very different from employer based health insurance. Low premium policies (meaning the total employee + employer premium) that are PPO or HMOs are essentially indistinguishable.
look, call me crazy, but Dems should probably find a better health care policy than just "if you like your insurance company death panel, you can keep your insurance company death panel"

Wow. Massive day for renewables on the Texas electricity grid. Over 75% wind and solar at one point in the day, yesterday. Plus look at the drawdown for power storage. Change can happen fast.

Twenty-five years ago, Wikipedia was an unlikely idea: a place where anyone could share free knowledge.

Today, it’s one of the most visited sites on Earth, not powered by corporate ads, but by people.

I think the funniest part of this is trump talked to the oil CEOs and asked them if they wanted to set up shop in venezuela and they're like "Go to an unstable country and extract so much oil that we devalue oil prices? are you stupid?"

Best wishes for the New Year. Black-eyed peas, cabbage, cornbread, and a fine brisket my sister gifted me. 11 hr Texas cook, by the book, with post oak. Sated, a bit sleepy, but counting to continue to be among the prosperous and lucky. Hope you are, too.

It is kind of weird that Texas and Michigan have only crossed paths three times, and that they're all in the last twenty years, and that Michigan has lost to Vince Young, Quinn Ewers, and now Arch Manning. -OS

My paltry book list for 2025.
I still haven't finished Robert Caro's The Power Broker, so I can't claim my coffee cup from Knopf yet.
The shortest book I read was The Bottle Imp by Robert Louis Stevenson. It seemed longer.
The longest book I read was Texas by James Michener. It seemed longer....

Texas grid right now-68% renewables, 25% fossil fuels. It seems change will never come, then it happens quickly.

Science that depends on access to oceanographic research vessels depends in turn on governments to support a research fleet. The US capability devolved from leader, to budget-stressed, to ‘no, not interested.’

Seems smart to go right to the political case. If you lost your election to a non citizen, wouldn’t you challenge it? Why not? They knew that birthright citizenship in the 14th amendment said what it said. Full stop. Thanks A. Frost and colleagues for this.
