Four generations of my family have served our country. Service is in my blood. The President wouldn’t know anything about that.

With great sadness I learned today of the death before Xmas of Faith Clarke née Dawson, aged 85. She was the last living grandchild of Victorian novelist Wilkie Collins and the last bearer of the Dawson name which Wilkie invented for his lover Martha Rudd and their 3 children.

Me: The label featuring an Irish patriot transported in 1867 by the British to their penal colony Down Under, for treason against the Crown? Fenian Hugh Brophy, who bears a resemblance to, oh, I dunno...?

Darren Jones truly woeful on Times Radio right now. Managing to sound both condescending and craven.

Answering “I’m not a commentator” when asked to comment on the legality of the USA’s actions in Venezuela just comes across terribly. The government would’ve been better just putting no one up.

🤔

I'm old enough to remember a few hours ago when this was supposedly about drugs.
Trump: "We're going to have our very large United States oil companies go in, spend billions of dollars, fix the badly broken infrastructure and start making money for the country. And we are ready to stage a second and much larger attack if we need to do so."

People I know in Pennsylvania who volunteered for Harris said the biggest reason why young men didn't want to vote for Harris was that they believed she would send them to war.
I’m thinking this morning about all the people I spoke to last year who were absolutely convinced, and tried to convince me, that Trump would be antiwar compared to Biden and Harris.

In the past week alone he has attacked Nigeria and then Venezuela and also threatened to attack Iran (again).

Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts.

Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.

I also love America and believe in its stated values.

And I understand that this pronouncement lands very differently when it comes from an organization that has intentionally been overhauled in order to curry favor with a jingoistic proto-fascist who says his opponents hate the country.
Incredible. CBS Evening News announces five new “simple values” — instead of their “38-page handbook” — as they roll out Tony Dokoupil is lead anchor.

One of those values is simply: “We love America and make no apologies for saying so.”

I'd add that Vance has repeatedly insisted that the GOP welcome Hitler-lovers like Nick Fuentes, who continually bashes Vance and his wife, into the party.

This has been reported almost exclusively as him expressing "unity" and trying to avoid infighting.

This year revealed new depths of depravity from Trump and his supporters.

But we also saw a lot of Americans of all walks of life stand up and sometimes take great risks for their neighbors or strangers.

Here’s hoping that the light keeps growing.
