I’m it sure which is worse - having SOCOM led by a guy who would murder people clinging to wreckage or having SOCOM led by a guy so dumb he didn’t realize he was the one to be thrown under the bus for doing it
One of the reasons servicemembers, from admirals and generals to the greenest private, should know “don’t follow illegal orders” is that this administration is a goulash of dishonorable character flaws like cowardice and dishonesty. There is no bus under which these pissants will not throw you.

Five officials told us that Hegseth had nothing to do with the second strike

“This is ‘protect Pete’ bullshit,”
and
“It’s throwing us, the service members, under the bus.”

You don't have to summon a coven of senior members of the E-4 Mafia to figure out what this slow motion throwing under the bus of Bradley means for the rest of the troops. Although fuck Bradley he knew better or should have.

Is it a good thing that the executive branch of the world’s largest possessor of nuclear weapons is essentially rudderless?
Donald Trump is crumbling before us.

Pete Hegseth is under fire for war crimes, with congressional inquiries looming.

Kash Patel is getting publicly humiliated by his own FBI agents.

RFK Jr.'s freak flag is getting national attention thanks to the Lizza-Nuzzi insanity.

The wheels are coming off.

Department of Defense Law of War Manual, Sec. 18.3.2.1 states the "requirement" to refuse illegal orders.

What’s its key example? Wait for it . . . It’s "orders to fire upon the shipwrecked."

Alexander the Great's soldiers got shitfaced whenever they had the opportunity, which was often because they made so much money pillaging half of Asia. It's hard to imagine the kinds of financial decisions being made in the baggage train or market towns along the road of conquest were good ones.
This story is supposed to be scandalous, but it's ignoring the millennia old tradition of the troops being fiscally irresponsible to the point of destroying their lives before they can even legally drink.
U.S. troops have become top gun traders, swapping investment tips from cockpits and the decks of aircraft carriers and making fortunes.

Genuine question - presumably murder is jurisdiction neutral. Murder is murder in the US, in the Commonwealth of Virginia, in the County of Arlington. Can’t he be tried in a jurisdiction that would take the case?
More probably than any other member of the administration, Hegseth has done *serious*crimes* (arguably *eighty-three* murders) in the open, admitting his responsibility, without congressional authorization, violating the laws of war on the assumption that Trump will protect him.

The White House says their peace plan didn’t come from Russia — the problem is it reads like Putin’s wishlist. We need a deal to end the war that actually protects Ukraine and doesn’t reward the war criminal who started this.

NY Times on mission to maintain mealymouthed descriptions of Trump.

There is no contradiction. Trump doesn't care about drugs or crime. He cares about political power & self-enrichment- and his actions are consistent in serving both.

Any Dem that runs on a platform
Of not honoring any pardon signed by Stephen Miller while then President was stroking out on the toilet has my vote
Also, this is Stephen Miller's project and while I know JD Vance is on board with the racism he's the only scheming vizier who stands to have pardon power if Trump keels over on the toilet so you're betting a lot on one horse of the subsequent power struggle.

I’m wagering that they aren’t bothering with lawyers anymore
It is unfathomable that the USG lawyers would sign off on a no-survivors boat strike (no get of jail free card).

There's clear precedent dating back to World War II trial of Germans for that very act, which lawyers know well.
