i am actually working on an article right now about how the vast majority of the world's information - and so many current events - are not at all legible to LLMs, a fact that a startling number of people never seem to think about
Wait until you hear that LLMs can only train on digitized/datafied info.
Most of the FACTS scholars use are in archives/libraries.
Less than 1% of archival colletions worldwide have been digitized.
Also: lots of facts are not even in archives, but in the attics.

suspect a big reason why many academics and others who work in areas where getting facts RIGHT is key are disinterested in using LLMs for research:
they’ve tried it, they keep noticing major errors in output, and they conclude that having to verify all that doesn’t actually save them time.

More state-sponsored capitalism. This time, the government dictates capital return.

Got a holiday card from a friend I made over 30 yrs ago when I worked for US Dept of Ed.
They closed her office & she was paid for 9 mos before retiring.
Taxpayer money was used to pay salaries while we did not get to benefit from the expertise of federal workers. It will take decades to rebuild.

watching the CECOT 60 Minutes segment that CBS suppressed, it’s striking that Weiss specifically called out as unnecessary some of the most rigorous investigative work in the segment, including an explanation of how it was done (by human rights researchers)

It’s actually not technically a leak. CBS News only operates in the US. A non-PSKY owned network Global TV has Canadian rights for 60 Minutes and aired it unedited since the call to pull the episode was made so late in the day. That broadcast was recorded and then shared across the internet.
