I get really annoyed when people argue that recreation/bike tourism is not a legitimate reason for infrastructure. How many roads do we have in this country that are just for access to beaches, ski resorts, or theme parks?
If drivers aren't given not just access, but redundant and convenient access to every sq inch of the country they flip out

Meanwhile for pedestrians and cyclists it's like "do they really need to cross this body of water? do they really need the freedom to go there? they might do it for recreation!

We’ve put some indoor twinkly lights on the front windows to put on during the daytime if it’s grey🎄. In the evening the lights on the big shrub come on on a timer.

I drew the curtains thinking it’s so dark, no one will come past now and switched off the window lights.

Dear reader, it was 4.30.

The "next phase of planning reform" has been announced today. The record of the Government so far has meant pretty low expectations on anything that comes out but this seems more like reactions will be along the lines of seeing it as a mixed picture.

This is a classic honest coaching inn, perhaps dating as early as the 18th century but traceable only to the early 19th century.

When I worked for the old regional assembly we looked at an extension of the Northern service to Morpeth to serve Choppington and Bedlington Station complementing the core Blyth and Tyne (as Northumberland Line was then known. Only 3 miles and the rails are in place.
In better transport news, early plans to extend the Northumberland Line to Newbiggin, on the back of its 900,000 passenger journeys this year.

Imagine if we did this everywhere possible?

(I want an extension to Morpeth too - I'd love to be able to head north & onto Scotland without going via NCL)

I flagged this a possibility when it wasn't included in the NDP last month. The line exists and is in good condition. Reopening it would have connected Limerick, Tipperary, Waterford, Cork and Galway with Wexford/Rosslare. It would have been great for regional development.

This struck a chord. 'When we bulldoze buildings we also destroy the collective memory, culture and identity of the communities they belong to.'
