Just discovered an insane new form of co-intelligence where you briefly share the mind of a great thinker in history and then a portion of their mind travels in yours for the rest of your life. Calling it a "book."

When they say "competency," but they mean "obedience."

I'll say it again, when we offload our critical and creative capacities to a "co-intelligence" for the sake of convenience, all we have left to offer the prevailing social order is our obedience.
In related news, the Canadian Sociological Association is instructing its members to be open to working "in collaboration" with AI and to cultivate "the ability to use it as a complementary 'co-intelligence' rather than view it solely as a threat."

So that's how things are going in higher ed.

America is the only country actively trying to kill its citizens while also asking them to feed as many words and images of themselves into a program before death so their avatars can be owned forever in a data center poisoning what was once their people's land.

It's no wonder the first thing people did with Sora was generate disrespectful images of MLK. It's a symbol of a desire to reduce black people to a product. We're told AI can do anything and yet all it produces is racism and non-consensual porn.

New: The Trump administration has struck a deal with the state of Missouri to end the SAVE Plan — the most affordable plan available to working class borrowers.

Much to say here, but tangible advice: do not voluntarily withdraw from the SAVE plan right now.

Trump administration strikes deal to end Biden’s student loan repayment plan
A settlement between the Trump administration and seven states could soon end the Save program that lowered payments and offered quicker loan cancellation.

This makes facially neutral policies--like poll taxes and literacy tests--that we know were adopted for discriminatory purposes legal. Organizations can now simply claim there was no discriminatory intent regardless of outcome. It's unconstrained institutionalized racism.

Good morning! I’m currently at Beaverton High School in OR where a mass student walk out has just started to demand a proactive ICE protocol for their school and district.

Students say that similar walkouts were planned at multiple other high schools, including Aloha, Sunset, Southridge & more.

I just got a "Decomputing" talk accepted by a very tech-focused business conference (as a Keynote even) and a labor rights organization who wanted me to propose a talk instantly went for the "The Luddites were right" suggestion. Two things that a few months ago would not have been possible I think.

My sense now is that a conversation we need to be having across various technological regimes is what intentional opting out looks like in a social form where opting in to various tools is compulsory or coerced.

Luddites, frame-breakers, Captain Swing rioters, women amassing in Manchester streets to demand potatoes (e.g. 1812)— all these were organized countermovements to a gathering universal commodification, c. 1750-1840. For that reason they call out now for our closest & most sympathetic form of study
Something I’ve encountered a lot lately is misperception of Luddites as technophobic reactionaries motivated by ignorance & resentment, rather than what they were, part of a well-informed labor movement seeking to seize control of means of production.

In 1958 Bill Buckley was desperate to find more subscribers for his fledgling “conservative” magazine. And so he reached out to the White Citizens Councils (which had formed to oppose Brown v Board) to get their mailing list. Hunting where the anti-14th Amendment ducks were.

A useful summary for showing there are no universal values here, that liberty, democracy, cooperation, etc, are irrelevant to the vision and policy plan

To the extent that 'the West' or 'civilisation' have any meaning, it's mere white identitarianism
