Birthright citizenship under the common law, a thread:

I have done this many times on social media, in print, and in media interviews, but not to be accused of taking others’ not seriously enough, by plainly stating the law and history of birthright citizenship, I’m taking the time here:

One of the many, many reforms we have to make after all of this is to make it impossible for the executive branch to withhold federal funding mandated by congress.

I know there many hurdles and impeachment is the proper recourse, but we've seen the limits of that. Something must be done.
This should be the biggest story in the country right now. The sitting US President was extorting state lawmakers from his own party by threatening to withhold public money if they didn’t gerrymander for him.

I don’t know how else to say it…

Who'd have thought…
Well now, would you look at that? A massive, 4-YEAR-LONG study of NEARLY 30 MILLION people in France found that individuals who received a COVID-19 mRNA vaccine had a 74% LOWER risk of death from severe COVID-19 compared to unvaccinated individuals and ZERO increased risk of all-cause mortality.

Unions should advocate fair work rules and that employers follow those rules. If you sexually harass a customer, you should be fired. That doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be appropriate due process.
Still laughing at this. Cannot imagine a more self-discrediting argument for socialism than “under socialism, you should be able to gesture to your crotch, tell a customer to suck it and keep your job”.
“Those of us on the left should be fighting to improve protections for workers of all races, and thereby for the betterment of people’s material conditions regardless of their views,” Arash Azizi argues:

It’s gonna be hilarious if, come November 2026, California is the only actually successful partisan gerrymander.

Mr DIY seems to have fixed the issue with the dryer that made the whole place turn in to a steam room every time it was run.

In terms of what to do with the mess Trump and Co. have made of DHS:
I'd do the ICE split and transfer HSI's investigatory budget and mission to the FBI. The ERO mission should be significantly cut down, and can split between the Dept. of Labor and the Marshals service.

USCIS should merge into the State Dept. Bureau of Consular Affairs.

Surprised it wasn't Rancho Peñasquitos.
Criminal investigators equipped with shovels and a specially trained dog descended on a home in San Diego this week and started to dig. They found human remains on the property, and now authorities are trying to figure out what happened.

Seeing disaster relief supplies emblazoned with “USAID From The American People” being distributed was one of the things I was proudest about being an American.

It’s annoying that carmakers treat this as a “luxury” feature, e.g. Honda only participating with its Acura brand.

Democratic politicians need to stop accepting Trump’s white nationalist premise that immigration is bad and proudly and loudly make a positive case for why America’s identity and history as a nation of immigrants is so important.

I suspect there is significant overlap on the venn diagram for "services likely to experience a data breach" and "services that store unvalidated email addresses in their database indefinitely".
I've had this dumb report too many times, and Bruce has finally tipped me over the edge. @haveibeenpwned.com is a real service that looks up email addresses in actual data breaches, but some people don't understand what an email address actually is www.troyhunt.com/why-does-hav...
Why Does Have I Been Pwned Contain "Fake" Email Addresses?
Normally, when someone sends feedback like this, I ignore it, but it happens often enough that it deserves an explainer, because the answer is really, really simple. So simple, in fact, that it should...
