This wasn't the kind of electric car we've been asking for…
BART service has stopped between Castro Valley and West Dublin/Pleasanton stations due to a car crash on I-580.

A vehicle involved in the crash is on the BART tracks.

We do not yet have an ETA for service restoration.

I might have just had Gemini write me a draft speech from a hypothetical vice president announcing that he is assuming power from a president that can no longer execute the duties of the office.

We can fantasize, can't we? Isn't that what AI is for?
It's entirely up to JD Vance. He can get that train rolling anytime he wants. If he comes out and says, "Yeah, the President has progressively worsening dementia and we're at the point where we can't let this keep going", I suspect he'd have sufficient support from the cabinet and and Congress.

Fascinating read. Definitely is a case study on "hierarchical" vs. "egalitarian" thinking/mindset… always fascinating to learn about how other people think.

People often take issue when I say “we.” But I think it’s important to phrase it that way.

This isn’t what I want. It’s not what I voted for. But this is what’s being done in our name. It’s we.
i think it is important to say that yes, WE murdered eight more people. We the people.
We just murdered eight more people in boats.

Birthright citizenship under the common law, a thread:

I have done this many times on social media, in print, and in media interviews, but not to be accused of taking others’ not seriously enough, by plainly stating the law and history of birthright citizenship, I’m taking the time here:

One of the many, many reforms we have to make after all of this is to make it impossible for the executive branch to withhold federal funding mandated by congress.

I know there many hurdles and impeachment is the proper recourse, but we've seen the limits of that. Something must be done.
This should be the biggest story in the country right now. The sitting US President was extorting state lawmakers from his own party by threatening to withhold public money if they didn’t gerrymander for him.

I don’t know how else to say it…

Who'd have thought…
Well now, would you look at that? A massive, 4-YEAR-LONG study of NEARLY 30 MILLION people in France found that individuals who received a COVID-19 mRNA vaccine had a 74% LOWER risk of death from severe COVID-19 compared to unvaccinated individuals and ZERO increased risk of all-cause mortality.

Unions should advocate fair work rules and that employers follow those rules. If you sexually harass a customer, you should be fired. That doesn’t mean there shouldn’t be appropriate due process.
Still laughing at this. Cannot imagine a more self-discrediting argument for socialism than “under socialism, you should be able to gesture to your crotch, tell a customer to suck it and keep your job”.
“Those of us on the left should be fighting to improve protections for workers of all races, and thereby for the betterment of people’s material conditions regardless of their views,” Arash Azizi argues:

In terms of what to do with the mess Trump and Co. have made of DHS:
I'd do the ICE split and transfer HSI's investigatory budget and mission to the FBI. The ERO mission should be significantly cut down, and can split between the Dept. of Labor and the Marshals service.

USCIS should merge into the State Dept. Bureau of Consular Affairs.

Surprised it wasn't Rancho Peñasquitos.
Criminal investigators equipped with shovels and a specially trained dog descended on a home in San Diego this week and started to dig. They found human remains on the property, and now authorities are trying to figure out what happened.

It’s annoying that carmakers treat this as a “luxury” feature, e.g. Honda only participating with its Acura brand.
