Schade.
I derive pleasure from the suffering of people who don't know what 'schadenfreude' means.

I'm getting my betting money out.
Mark Kelly: "My wife, Gabby Giffords, meeting with her constituents, shot in the head. Six people killed around her, a horrific thing. She spent six months in the hospital. We know what political violence is and we know what causes it too, The statements that Donald Trump made incites others."

I can vouch.

Go Green Go White

Honors College was a deal.
Really important to stress that the Crown Jewels of the US higher education system were never the Ivies or elite SLACs (other countries have equivalents of these) but the well-funded, large, cheap, and excellently staffed public state university systems bringing high quality education to the masses.
One of the bragging rights that the US ed system had in the 20th century is that we didn't have education tracks. Essentially, any kid could go to a CC or state school & major in whatever they wanted to (obviously an oversimplification). I fear this aspect of the American dream is dying.

The behavioral sciences, including social psych, were built up post-WWII expressly to repair the world after the catastrophe brought by fascism & to prevent the next round. And here we are. How do we react? 2 pts: This is a global issue, not an American one. One can keep "politics" out of it.

Big Fun.
Blue in Greene

Marjorie Taylor Greene was more Jefferson Davis than Miles Davis, but now this swinger sounds kind of blue—and not in a silent way. It's 'round about midnight for MAGA, so while Donald bitches, brew a cup of joe and witness the birth of the cool new MTG.

An Oxy Moron: One who contradicts one's self within a single speech act, likely with lack of awareness. Or humility.
WELKER: Inflation has gone up. It's at 3% now up from 2% in April when the tariffs were imposed--

BESSENT: No, no no no. So, inflation hasn't gone up. The one thing we're not gonna do is do what the Biden administration did and tell the American people they don't know how they feel

Here in Ann Arbor we are well-prepared for suspected operations this coming Saturday. We will force-feed cherries to any invaders but will hide the Founders. Can explain the pizza in the interest of peace.

AA: Safe and secure since 2021.

Always helpful, never in doubt. The rest...

>it's real

Back in black, I hit the sack
I've been too long, I'm glad to be back
Yes, I'm let loose from the noose
That's kept me hangin about
I'm just a-lookin at the sky cause it's gettin me high
Forget the hearse, cause I'll never die
I got nine lives, cat's eyes
Abusin every one of them and runnin wild

A bonus. A delightful conversation with stage and film director Kenny Leon. Informative beyond category.

The Legend Lives On

Howard Lutnick is more Cantor Fitzgerald than Edmund Fitzgerald, but as the economic gales of November sweep the middle class, he's light footing it to Saudi Arabia to enrich himself and his sons. I'd curse him, but the Catholic in me fears the mother Superior.

I’m having that thing where you log on to social and everyone is reacting to the new thing but the reactions are vague, aghast, angry enough that you’re struggling to figure out exactly what the new thing is. German must have a word for this.

Tell tale.

Words beyond English, AI overconfidence, upside down tacos, do your own research, Steely Dan, science communication, what education undoes…

For those who play, spot the Easter eggs for the Delphic oracles, Marcel Marceau, Edvard Munch, and Sinclair Lewis.

The tie belonged to my late father. 3/3

The title will not surprise: “Why Do Fools Think They Are Wise? Should the Wise Believe Themselves to be the Fool?”

It featured enduring themes but the newest findings from my lab’s research. Questions from the President and audience afterward were as good as one would expect. 2/3

Last month I was honored, w/ 200 peers, to be inducted into the American Academy of Arts & Sciences. A surprise. Further, I was invited to give the featured talk at the closing session, followed by a conversation w/ Dr. Laurie Patton, the Academy’s president. 1/3

Do as I say, not as I ...

Oh, never mind. It's all about my presentation. Don't pay attention to my doing. I'm not.
Oh my.

James Talarico is incredibly skilled in dismantling Christian Nationalists.
