I think this is true of the typical vanilla chatbot interface. I am not as convinced it is true of pre-prompted and wrapped generative AI applications that are constructed to push cognition, rather than offload it.

Three+ years on, here’s what I think useful generative AI for students (at least as far as their learning goes) looks like: davidknuffke.medium.com/the-novice-b...

This is a solid argument for teaching from a systems perspective.
The other day, @agittner.bsky.social prompted me to describe how I would teach a concept.

I found it almost impossible.

And, it had me wondering why, a full time biology teacher, head of biology, & someone who has written so much on biology education, couldn't do it easily.

Here's my answer 🧵

Are you a person or student with dysgraphia (or do you know one)? I’m trying to make an app that helps with Math. It’s not even beta yet, but if you can kick the tires and give me notes and share it around, that would be helpful: dysgraphimath.com

Coming back from New Zealand to Singapore really does feel like two different visions of what life can be like. I wish more Americans could travel (or wanted to).

There’s only so much stupid that most people can take before they lose their stupid tolerance.
Zach Bryan on the Turning Point USA halftime show:

"I don’t care what side you’re on, a bunch of adults throwing temper tantrums and their own halftime show is embarrassing as hell and the most cringe shit on the planet"

I’ve had this week’s meditation on leadership ready-to-go for a few months now. But I’ve been writing in other topics of late. Here, during Interim Semester week, it’s has bubbled to the top of the queue: davidknuffke.medium.com/why-is-the-c...

My greetings to you from our Interim Semester school trip to the North Island, where we saw 2 juvenile orca and an adult about 15 meters off the shoreline at the beach in Tauranga today.
Yesterday I posted about my 44 year dream of seeing the albatross colony in Dunedin. My other dream that has been 44 years in the making has been to visit Rakiura, Aotearoa New Zealand’s third island.

I flew in this afternoon.

How eagerly Big Tech has given itself over to MAGA-fascism is really, really worth writing down in the big book of never forgetting. I am not super-hopeful that it will actually be remembered.
With Jeff Bezos's dismantling of the Washington Post and Amazon's extensive ICE and DoD profiteering, it's imperative to understand precisely how both have openly become instruments of authoritarianism

Again, it is unconscionable to vibe-code anything that is collecting PII. And it should be liable for legal sanction.

I have updated my personal website and reduced the cost of hosting from the $130/year I paid Squarespace to $11.50 a year for the custom domain name on Vercel. Hard to see how legacy site-builders survive the rise of LLM-assisted IDEs: davidknuffke.com

I can’t imagine ever collecting information from users of anything even remotely vibe-coded. It’s just a wild choice, and the issues are going to become more and more common.

I’ve been on a pretty self-promotional jag for the whole book publication thing. But I also wanted to write a bit about how to do it, since it’s much easier than many people (including past-me) think. H/T to @cmooreanderson.bsky.social for some advice: davidknuffke.medium.com/how-i-made-a...

I would happily give up all of my social media if it meant that social media was both dead and no longer contributing to the current global crises that it helps to exacerbate.

The first rule of running the American Gestapo is that you never say you are running the American Gestapo.
Bovino: "When politicians, community leaders, & some journalists engage in that heated rhetoric we keep talking about, when they make the choice to vilify law enforcement calling law enforcement 'Gestapo' or using the term 'kidnapping,' that is a choice & there are actions & consequences."

Noem deserves significant time in jail for what she has done over the past year. Constitutional crimes all over the place.
Q: Did he brandish a gun?

KRISTI NOEM: This individual showed up to impede a law enforcement operation and assaulted our officers. I don't know of any peaceful protester that shows up with a gun and ammunition rather than a sign. This is a violent riot when you have someone showing up with weapons
