I finally got to watch Win or Lose (haven’t had Disney+) and I can’t recommend it enough. A Pixar animated series that’s SO funny & pointed. I had to go back to the 1st episode & restart, intent on watching the entire thing with my husband. THIS is the kind of art I want to make. Man, it’s so good.

Just watched the end of #winorlose with the bug and we both adored it. It's such a perfect series showing both adult and child struggles with mental health, wish I'd had more stories like this when I was a kid it would have helped my anxiety SO MUCH but it's so lovely that this generation does 🥰

La prima serie Pixar originale - Dream Productions, alla fine, era più uno spin-off - conferma la ritrovata vena creativa di uno studio che sembrava aver da tempo perso parte della sua distintiva originalità. Win or Lose è un prodotto molto consapevole delle potenzialità del mezzo televisivo e delle sue caratteristiche ma anche dei tre elementi strettamente interconnessi con cui lo studio creato da John Lasseter si è sempre distinto dalla concorrenza: estetica, emotività e comicità. Qui queste tre caratteristiche vengono fatte coesistere in maniera egregia, potenziandosi l’una con l’altra e valorizzandosi a vicenda in otto episodi capaci di essere sempre riconoscibili (in fondo fanno parte di una storia unica) ma anche originali e sempre peculiari (ogni puntata ha caratteristiche che le altre non hanno).

La storia è quella di una squadra di softball delle scuole medie e della partita decisiva della loro stagione; ogni puntata va avanti e indietro nel tempo, concentrandosi sulle vicende di uno specifico personaggio e del suo mondo. Piccoli microcosmi che andranno a influenzare il momento clou, come in una sorta di puzzle che ci spiegherà non solo come sono andate le cose, ma anche perché sono andate in quel modo.

Sarà sin da subito molto chiaro che non importa davvero “chi vince e chi perde”, ma il modo in cui vengono affrontati i piccoli problemi quotidiani. E Win or Lose di problemi ne affronta davvero tanti e tutti con una delicatezza e una leggerezza dei toni davvero riuscita. Un prodotto genuinamente trasversale, che piacerà ai piccoli ma farà riflettere i grandi, in quell’equilibrio che solo la Pixar dei momenti migliori è capace di ottenere.
