“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

MLK Jr.

Loving does not mean ignoring abuse, bigotry and violence, but if hate grows within us, we are defeated.

Love is the difficult way through these brutal times.

Good night.

There is a measure of laziness and unwillingness in philanthropy that I’m still trying to articulate.

This man built the most efficient commerce and delivery network in the history of the world.

Do you really think if he wanted to solve homelessness donating $11m would be his move?
Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez Bezos have donated $11.25 million to fight homelessness in the Washington, DC, area through their Bezos Day 1 Fund.

The NDP's first official leadership debate did a disservice to the party, its members, to francophones, and to Quebec. After April's result, there needs to be real & substantive debate about what happened and what should happen next. This wasn't it.

There is a movement to "prove that the datacenter water issues is fake". If you venture into Muskrat's hell site, you can see the community note these people put on this great piece of investigative journalism, accusing them of unfairly implicating datacenters.

"Interpassivity is so dominant today that doing and making are referred to as obstacles to the pleasures of not participating."

This is what gets me.

Anecdotally, the people that love AI in my world are people that want to opt out of a ton of shit that I think is necessary and it *grinds* me.
This week I reach back to the 1990s and the concept of “interpassivity,” a critique of the widespread idea that “interaction” was inherently liberating for an audience. But to think in nuanced and critical ways about creativity with generative AI, the “gesture of disappearance” has new salience.

Until it's single digits this number just confirms for me that the USA is not OK.
Donald Trump’s approval rating continues to decline!

A new Gallup poll taken November 3–25. shows Trump at a 36% approval rating, down from 41% in October. That’s close to his lowest-ever of 34% in 2021 after the January 6. Capitol riot.

(1/3) There's this fascinating divide between White and Black culture I sometimes see around how we discuss terrible things and people. Black folks often discuss the most pedestrian, hohum topics adjacent to something terrible and understand the rationale is: You know it's bad and I know it's bad so

I did it and slept for four hours straight. That doesn’t usually happen.

I think I will go back to sleep for a bit (yup, I caved and got up and retrieved my iPad).
I was so close to leaving my phone in the other room tonight and now I'm in bed and too tired to get up. Maybe if I could find that chocolate bar that I bought at the supermarket, which is another form of bedtime corruption, I'd be motivated to get up. No more posts = success.
