Mandelson is not the only example of those using their time in power to enrich themselves. Think Cameron lobbying for Greensill Capital! Meanwhile, Farage’s recent £50k trip to Davos, to declare an end to the rules-based global order, gets paid for by an Iranian-born billionaire, Sasan Ghandehari.
Mandelson revelations show need for tougher UK constraints to resist rule of the rich.

Big money buys access to policymakers, ministers, thwarts threatening laws. Political corruption is normalised. Democracy hijacked l

Must end political donations, second jobs for MPs; must control lobbyists.

As a description of how government spending is financed, “MMT” is not a “theory”. It’s fact. There are differences about what this means for policy but one thing is quite clear: The government does not have to generate taxes or go to the bond markets in order to spend.

Starmer lied to Labour Party members to get elected as leader. I didn’t vote for him but even a seasoned member like me didn’t realise the extent of his lies. Many who voted for him have, like me, left the Party. Many now proudly members of @greenparty.org.uk We have 4 great MPs🤞🏼we will soon have 5!

Thanks @westenglandbylines.co.uk for a piece that explains the difference between MMT, as a factual description of the mechanics of government spending, VS MMT economic policy.

One is accounting fact and the other is subjective economics and it’s important we know the difference.

Perhaps the bigger problem for Streeting is the growing concerns around the NHS medicines deal with the US

And what role did he / Mandelson play in it?

Isn't it revolting how Pippa Crerar enables Wes Streeting's attempt to launder his reputation?
How extraordinarily fortunate for Wes Streeting that the only text messages he sent Peter Mandelson just happened to be exactly the sort of things other Labour MPs want to hear from a potential leadership candidate

National Insurance (NI) dodges.

Companies pay employers' NI (ENI) on director wage.

Partners of Limited Liability Partnerships (LLPs) get share of profit, instead of wage

No ENI paid. Big 4 law firms alone dodged £4bn.

Billions more lost in other LLPs.

No govt plugs this perk for the rich
National Insurance is a regressive tax that hits the less well-off hardest
Compared to income tax, national insurance contributions attract little sustained scrutiny even though they provide large amounts to the public purse.

I’m not saying civil servants or career diplomats are perfect- there’s certainly been the odd scandal or two - but, honestly, it’s infuriating when politicians blame “bureaucrats” for alleged failings, when they have people like this. Civil servants are rarely as bad as the politicians above them!
