posting random stuff on cycling, climate change, sustainability, west London, Leeds United and occasional photography. Day job involves orchestrating the provision of data, currently environmental data
I've never seen anywhere that hasn't or would be improved by removing cars

In London we had regent Street closed to cars, and soon Oxford Street will have vehicles removed

I went to Woodstock in Oxfordshire and could only imagine how better it would be without it being essentially just a car park

My favourite

"Cyclists shop more frequently than drivers, "

Think about it, Cars want to go to car parks. Bikes go to shops

If you're a local councillor, what will bring more custom to your local area? A nice peaceful, beautiful social space with pedestrians and cyclists

Or a massive car park
“We can’t all be expected to bike.”

Fair. But that’s not the point.

“Not everyone can or wants to bike. But some people can & do—and they deserve a safe, efficient, affordable way to move through the city. It’s about freedom of choice.”

This & other useful comebacks, in @momentummag.bsky.social.
Your Comeback Guide to all the Anti-Cycling Arguments You’ll Hear This Year
Anti-bike arguments aren’t just frustrating—they’re outdated, inaccurate, and often repeated without a shred of evidence.

Bluesky has felt sleepy for a while now. I want to encourage everyone to post more. Text is fine, but you know what? People enjoy damn near any picture of something neat. Food, your bike, a cat, whatever. Also, liking is nice, but reposting is what actually helps exposure.

Just some numerology crossing of the streams for you

As we know

Dominic Calvert-Lewin = DCL
DCL = 650 in Roman numerals
6+5+0=11

So he's going to score 11 goals this season

Yes, yes it was and is reductive.

As many have been seeing and saying

352 works and has merits but not a panacea

I was worried going back to the familiar patterns when chasing the game that we'd run out of ideas

But it feels like the group have rediscovered some belief and confidence

#lufc
@allstatsarentwe.bsky.social is it reductive to think 352 caused the uptick in performance

Certainly seemed to help prevent the over loads

The two up top seemed more connected as well

100% this. The performative cruelty, the beating up on the poor, fringe and marginalised groups.

From a "progressive"party

Pandering to bigoted, bloodthirsty baiting media.

That's not democracy
What is democracy if all the main parties are the same

Give us a representative democracy
Nobody voted for any of this shit, you understand, just as they didn’t vote for the relentless crackdowns or PFI or more new peers. We are getting this regardless, because this stuff is what *our horrific political/media class* wants, and they treat democracy as their license to do as they please.

Hear me out.

Let's not put hazardous "forever chemicals” on daily staple foods

#justsaying
PFAS, or 'forever chemicals', are among the most widely used pesticide active substances in UK

27 known PFAS active ingredients are used in UK, 6 of which are highly hazardous

"Our findings underscore the urgent need for an immediate ban" say PAN-Europe

I was low level loving Tanaka's awful comedy finishing

The mishit left for grubber
The mishit right foot bouncer that went miles wide

Then he scores that screamer, wonderful

#lufc great game, great win

Nerves at the end even if it ended up quite safe

I live gudmunson and bogle's runs but also the feeling we can slow the game if & when it transitions

2 up top also just feels more productive

In the Netherlands, where the Dutch invest in safe cycling, the over-65s cycle around a quarter of their journeys, while the over-80s cycle around 10% of theirs.

Low Traffic Neighbourhoods and cycle lanes don't 'restrict freedom', they expand it.

The 50 wealthiest families own more wealth than the bottom 50% of the population.

How can this Labour Government say this is a "cost of living" budget and refuse to tax the rich?

They care about protecting power and wealth. And cost of living is a buzz phrase for them. Dire.

I used to think the tax billionaires line was ok but missed out on the quantity of money raised.

Ie. Yes they should pay more, but to make a dent in public finances you need to do hings on a big scale.

But when billionaires earn as much as HALF THE PEOPLE IN THE COUNTRY, that becomes the play
At the Budget, the Green Party's message is clear: Cut Bills. Tax Billionaires.

it's so good to hear a british politician on the main bbc news platforms actually saying this stuff though. like we just got used to it not happening for years
A Government of cowards.

Rather than tackle inequality - they've gone for pensioners, disabled people and now it's people fleeing war and persecution.

They can't get away with this.
