Ian McKellen doing a Shakespeare monologue where he's admonishing a mob protesting against immigrants

Watch the whole interview
But,If you don't , just watch the last 5 mins because that is a very very good monologue
I’m having a hard time thinking of an interview between two human beings I enjoyed more than tonight’s interview of the great Ian McKellen by the great Stephen Colbert. Every moment of it was a pleasure that I highly recommend… but then came the most REMARKABLE ending that you really HAVE to watch.

I can't access the article anymore but it basically says if you took a phase 2 student loan you're unlikely to ever pay it off.

I have colleagues paying £600-700 per month and still their outstanding balance is scarcely shifting

That's not right

Pleased to see the jury make this decision.

We need to have eyes wide open this is exactly why the Government wants to abolish juries.

People protesting against a genocide are not the criminals here - it's the politicians who continue to provide cover.

The ICO information commissioners office should be doing this #GDPR

If this case goes against Reform, they definitely should.

This would also be aggravated as they are showing contempt for the law.

Fine should start at 5-10% annual turnover as a minimum but more due to the aggravating factors

So many questions

19yo council leader?
Stuffed bear?
Do people really think there's anything that can be cut still in councils

Just come back from watching #ironlungmovie very interesting

Do you remember when people were saying "I think my phone is listening to me, i'm getting ads for stuff I spoke about" and people said "They arent listening to you, they're just this good at predicting your interests"?

Well, it happens they were doing exactly that.

Thinking more about this.

What we have at the moment, is a tax by hedge funds and private wealth on our day today lives.

Public services and natural monopolies, shouldn't' leech money to to these interests.
We're working harder to create wealth that is not shared back with our communities

Do you know an example of a 15 minute city?

A village.

Schools, doctors, shops, leisure, public transport, all in 15 mins walk or bike.

Are villages socialist ghetto holes? No
Are these shrieking idiots confecting hysteria to make themselves seem like part of a culture war? Yes
Someone from the Tories’ Lords team really needs to change Sharron Davies’ X log in.

As an aside, how *would* 15 minute cities be “thrust on us overnight”?
January 30, 2026 at 7:26 PM
Do you know why this is good.

Children and those who do not have access to a car have mobility

Children can get to school by themselves & parents don't have to just be taxis

Those smaller communities become more vibrant, more economic activity, local shopping, cafes, socialising

Fun & healthy
The best cycle lanes are wide, beautiful and completely separate from other roads. This type of infrastructure is common here in the Netherlands. They often connect cities and offer a great alternative for driving.
