Actually understanding how LLMs/genAI works must be a disqualifying attribute for this job.

Because, again, it does not think. It's a complex set of probabilities spitting out glamorized predictive text. It can never be sentient.

These people are like a deranged cyberpunk techno cult.

This is one of the biggest stories in America, comparable in scale to what’s happening in Minnesota. The largest social media platform is transferred to Trump’s allies and immediately forbids you from saying anything bad about him. Absolutely totalitarian in nature. No different than China.

This isn’t pragmatic realism. This is the government not doing its job.

Canada’s US travel advisory is a reverse canary in the coal mine. You’ll know the Carney government is starting to respond appropriately to the Trump authoritarian threat when it changes the advisory to reflect reality.

The Carney government is telling Canadians that conditions in the US are comparable to those in Canada, at the border and *everywhere in the US*. They’re not. It’s a lie. And it’s putting Canadians at risk, violating a basic duty to Canadians.

Checking in with the Carney government’s US travel advisory, as Trump unleashes state terror on Minneapolis and ICE continues to rampage throughout the country, and, yep. Canada’s still going along to get along.
Great speech, though.

I almost appreciate how Trump has exposed how vacant every single high profile conservative belief was: free speech, states’ rights, letting the market decide, NATO, the right to bear arms, democracy, all of it. It’s been an empty, malicious political project for decades and decades now
Folks have been noting the creepiness of this NRA statement on the Minneapolis murder that DOESN'T affirm Alex Pretti's right to have a gun at a protest, instead blaming "radical progressive politicians lie Tim Walz" who have "incited violence against law enforcement officers" for his death....

This is from the NYT masthead editorial about the murders of Renee Good and Alex Pretti. The highlighted line invalidates not just the editorial, but the very idea of newspaper editorials crafted by the consensus of a board. Better to publish nothing at all than to publish a line like this.

This is totally unheard of for any officer-involved shooting

Back in November 2024, a colleague quipped that, unlike the media and the public at the time, political scientists had moved on from debating whether or not Trump was an authoritarian to "whether he's also a fascist."

Question answered, decisively.
This is quite a coincidence.

Earlier, I wrote about why I choose to openly call Trump a fascist despite my historical resistance to use that word, even when it seems legitimate.

Well, this article just appeared in my inbox, and it is on the exact same topic! www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

So Kyle Rittenhouse, who attended a protest armed with a loaded assault rifle and killed 2 people is a right-wing hero.

But Alex Pretti who had a holstered, permitted handgun, was recording ICE, and tried to help a pepper-sprayed woman deserved to die?

No one is buying this BS.
Kash Patel: "You cannot bring a firearm, loaded, with multiple magazines to any sort of protest that you want. It's that simple. You don't have a right to break the law." (Pretti was carrying a gun legally.)

Apparently we've reached the "it's not overstating things to compare current conditions to the prelude to the US Civil War" stage of Trump II.
A federal judge effectively ordered the U.S. government not to cover up evidence that it illegally executed a civilian, at the request of local prosecutors seeking to investigate federal agents for murder.

Don’t want to overstate things but it feels reminiscent of the run-up to the Civil War.
Understand that 370 days ago even bringing a motion like this would probably have been treated as sanctionably frivolous

Today it was granted ex parte
