Bill Gates hasn’t made sense on Climate since he teamed up with Bjorn Lomberg in 2009. This is just a restating of Bjorn’s book from this year about how we have a finite amount of money and we shouldn’t use it for climate. What they get wrong is that climate solutions are now fully profitable.
Bill Gates has a new memo out calling for a “strategic pivot” on climate change, downplaying “doomsday” talk to focus on filling enormous post-USAID budget gaps in global health and vaccine funding. I got an early glimpse of his thinking last week:

I stopped listening to Bill Gates years ago. You should stop too.

Instead, I would listen to *real* experts who know about *real* climate solutions — not tech fantasies.

You would then quickly see how these solutions can improve lives and help vulnerable communities thrive across the world.
Is it possible to ease human suffering, protect nature, and address climate change? Yes, says a team of int'l experts led by Drawdown and Sr. Scientist, Paul West. To find out how, read the commentary: https://bit.ly/4nXIc7

This is gorgeous.
China’s cycling resurgence can best be admired at street level, where cities like Kunshan are building infrastructure of incredibly high quantity and quality.

Cohesive networks that offer both practical connectivity and inviting usability; with abundant width, shade, protection, and natural beauty.

I hate rating boards that let sit in judgement on those doing hard, underpaid and too often gross work - uber, food delivery, cleaners.

But i also hate the idea that whingers are marking cleaners down, so i end up voting 'excellent' to make sure jerks don't make lives harder. Dumb world.

Excellent podcast by BBC on the torrent of western fashion waste that Ghana has to wade through.

Particularly love that they captured the joy of African markets and tenacity of the people there - these places are far from just misery. But also love that they stared down the utter mess we're making.

Phnom Penh's new international airport is stunning and Cambodians are so proud.

I've never lived in a country that's so proud when something good happens. It is really nice....

This is absolutely bang on
No matter what #Musk says or does, many on the left continue to post on and pay for X, a clear example of how progressive movements are beholden to the narrative that we don't have to change anything at all about our lives to achieve our political goals.

I wrote about why that's bad in July ⬇️
X reveals a weakness in left-wing rhetoric

A lot of understandable despair today - but vital to note the huge, huge difference between 2 and 3 degrees.

A shitload of lives depend on it.

Similarly melts my brain that progressive NGOs still use X.
It melts my head that X is still used for official Government communications, and, catching up on today's news and the fact we have a foreign billionaire inciting violence on our streets, it's clearer than ever that this should end.

I raised this in Parliament last week 👇

I'm super worried/convinced that AI articles will end up being really good. But over the last week I've read three articles on solar power, Van Halen and Les Paul Guitars and each have been utter slop.

Solar panels now cost peanuts (under 10 cents per W) in most of the world.

Carbon dioxide emissions in high-income countries are now falling, and there's reason to believe other countries will be able to develop much more sustainably than those did.

Phnom Penh really knows how to kick you in the guts.

My six year old daughter's been making Save the Environment posters and we've been having many discussions the recyclability of things (mainly in an attempt to try to subtly tamp down her voraciously accumulation of barbies).

The world's a scary place right now. Australians are incredibly, undeservedly lucky to live where we do.

But climate change risks all of that, and all within my kids' lifetime.
The National Climate Risk Assessment is a reminder that we have to keep acting on Climate Change.

I've been thinking about personal action and social media a bit over the weekend. It's become an accepted fact that individual action was a waste of time. And to a certain extent i get that - recycling was a figleaf for consumerism, carbon footprints were developed by BP etc etc BUT....

This is deeply inspiring and should be the number one goal for anyone managing our roads.
The capital of Finland hasn't had a traffic death in a full year. Lower speed limits, plentiful speed cameras, 1,500+ km of bike lanes, infrastructure for pedestrians, and a new tram line.
When you prioritize people and not vehicles, you can save lives while protecting the environment.
Helsinki records zero traffic deaths for full year
Helsinki has completed 12 months without a single traffic fatality, a milestone credited to lower speed limits, safer infrastructure, and years of consistent planning, officials say.

I don't talk too much about having a #cleft as it's not a huge part of my identity, but this is pretty awesome. So many parents worry that their cleft kids will freak people out (not helped by every popular depiction of a cleft being a bad guy!) so this is very, very nice and great to see.

Proud to be part of an effort by 85 scientists from around the world to respond to a misleading DOE climate science report last month.
